OT Global Warming

Personally I Believe that it is the natural course the earth follows (heat and cool) I had a professor that showed there are more green spaces now than 150 years ago... ( at least in this country) Thanks to reforestation and the push for conservation we have improved our enviroment I could be the fool but I truly dont believe in global warming.

Seems like a foolish statement. I call false on the 150 years ago thing. Seems almost laughable. Belive what you want though. Oh yeah and smoking is good for you. So is drinking while driving and smoking crack......That may have been too far. Just having a little fun at your professers expense.

Isn't that the great thing its just that an opinion as there is no true way to show either side to be true.

To help with the forestry issue...I make my living with wood...prior to moving here I managed a sawmill and treating plant in East Texas (no I don't have an accent) and it is true that there are more forested acres of land today than there were in the 1920's. I am not sure if that is true of 150 years ago but one thing is true is the trees are different. Weyerhauser's geneticists developed several very fast growing strains of pine tree that has a turnover from sapling to harvestable tree in as little as 30 years. These trees are not the same as the old growth ones they replaced. Yes there are more trees but they are not the same trees. Carpenters always complain about the quality of lumber...it is because the growth rings are significantly larger than wood that was harvested before the 80's. larger growth rings cause dimensionally unstable wood. For building a house it isn't that important because one the wood is fixed in place it typically will not move once it reached equilibrium in moisture which is about 8-9%. For more critical areas such as cabinetry it makes a difference and these trees are not suitable...hence MDF and Particle Board which are dimensionally stable but must be skinned with a visually appealing veneer.

It is true we have more acreage of timber growing today than the past.

That may be for North America but not for the rest of the world, especially for third world counties that there main source of fuel is wood, since they cant afford petroleum, put that aside, as mentioned before the surrounding of the polar regains are getting greener, that is not a good sign!...

Just like sometimes we have to step in as a country when human lives are threatened (don't make that political), maybe we need to step in and stop the rainforest destructions as well as environmental assaults. It's actually human life as well that is being threatened, just slower. I know we can't fix everything wrong in the world but at least in the end we would be standing at the gates saying we tried.

Like I said in my original statement, if we're going to err then why not err on the side of safety and humanity.

I think that until we have really really solid evidence of global warming (in the form of consensus between those elite scientist types and political leaders), it is folly to hurt our nations economy by reining in CO2 emissions. What the liberal media dont realize is that they are being manipulated by a cadre of so called green industries who just want to make a buck on spreading this senseless panic. Until the waters start lapping on my front door, I wont believe a word of it. Why should we take action when even scientists disagree?

because if water is lapping at your front door... it was way too late and millions of people will be dead or displaced.

it's important to note we're not destroying the world. the world could give a crap. we're destroying our environment.

let's say it's not us, let's say it is a mood swing the earth's climate goes through. we can't survive it. so we should try and preserve the climate like it is!

indisputable fact: glaciers are melting and not being replenished as fast as they have for thousands of years. evidence of climate change. this will have impact on our civilization in my lifetime. (i put our lifetime, but some of you are old... ZING!)

Also fact...the oceans have been rising for a longer period of time than we have been Co2 polluters...ask the people of Mexico City and Italy...very old cities that have had the sea encroaching on them for a very very long time. Those glaciers are melting but this isn't something new and is nothing we are going to stop. I do believe in global warming and I also believe in global cooling and that cycle will happen again as well. Letmegrow had an interesting temp chart of the world several months ago...I wonder if I can find it or if he can post it again...it is a cycle.

Dang...I told myself I wasn't going to post in topics like this.

Sorry have to correct you on this one, parts of Italy that are under water are because of the ground sinking, soft sand, Mexico volcanos, so to say that this has been going for ever is true but to use it as a excuse, no... it is not related with this topic ;)

I knew it was the Pirates and at the end of the day when the world is under water, only the pirates will be left, on the high seas, living the life they always have.

I think I just put way to much thought into Pirates :D

Actually, if you study the graph, you will see that the pirates are declining as the Earth gets warmer.

Everyone knows that pirates tend to thrive at 14.25 degrees celcius, and can't survive in temperatures over 16 degrees celcius. Didn't you read Al Gore's book?

So what you are saying is that the icebergs melting and the water rising has no relationship to Italy and Mexico losing a battle with the ocean...does the ocean magically not rise in those places? I don't follow the thought process there. If the oceans are rising in one part of the world they are rising all over the world...I think it is very related as a rise in elevation anywhere in water is a rise in elevation of all of the water as the oceans are connected. What happens to items placed in sand as the water rises...they sink. What happens to Italian cities as the water rises...they sink. Doubt it...go stand on the beach at low tide and at high tide you will begin to sink as the water rising under you allows your weight to more easily displace the sand.

Yes? :smokin:

Maybe Al Gore is responsible. lol

Its a pointless arguement......its like trying to convince people that evolution actually happened. If there was really evolution, how come there are still monkeys?

Come on, just apply common sense to these liberal myths.

It is pointless and we won't stop it or make the world self destruct we can only ride it out and do what little part we can to delay the eventual.
