OT: Go Lakers!

Anyone else notice how big Bynum got? He spent a lot of time in the weight room this off season.

Marion for Odom would be cool, but they'd need to get a more traditional point guard if that happened. Without Odom, Kobe would have to take on more ball-handling/initiating-offense responsibility, and that would just wear him down.

unarce makes a good point, but lwas lamar really responsible for much ball-handling and/or assists last year? he has the ability, that's for sure... but i don't think we've really utilized him in such a way. i think we'll be pretty good in the ball movement dept either way. fish and farmar will do more than enough to eleviate kobe from having to bring the ball up court and pau and bynum and both rock solid passers as far as bigs go.

socalchris- it can't be straight up. marion makes a few million more; that's why i said you'd prob have to include a walton or radmanovic. it would hurt to see either of them go, but with what they're making now, you kinda have to try to move them. as far as riley letting marion go... they're actively shopping him around now. he's been sandbagging it since he got to miami and the league suddenly sees him as a problematic guy. all of a sudden his value as a player has dropped dramatically. lamar and wade played together and had solid chemistry. lamar was putting up better numbers (aside from rebounding) in miami and they're buddies. the trade was a pipe dream about a year ago, in 2008 it's a possibilty. don't forget, miami owes us a lil somethin for that shaq trade as well ;)

yes, you make some good points there.

interesting game...
NO GASOL + BYNUM other than the first few minutes?!?! i guess there really is an oil and water thing going on here. kinda disconcerting. with bynum in our second unit, however, our bench looks like it can run w/ almost any other nba team's starters. to think... there was almost no offensive contribution from bynum, fisher, sasha, farmar (lots of assists, though) or walton, yet, we still won by that huge margin. our defense... almost looks... dare i say... respectable?

much to my delight, radmanovic looked like a new man. love the shaved head and the murderous look in his eye. maybe he decided 08-09 will be the year that he gets out of coach jackson's doghouse and contribute some consistent and solid play. what'd he have, 3 or 4 steals?

***

in another galaxy not too far, far away... leon powe & tony allen looked great in limited minutes; and rajon rondo looks like the next great point guard- his play reminded me a lot of tony parker's and dwayne wade in spots (mostly when he was taking hard contact and consequently eating parquet)... he can get to the rim whenever he wants, and i expect his midrange jump shot to come together very soon (he's going to get a lot of open looks on the perimeter). i fully expect kendrick perkins to show improvement as well. and fricken pierce... bastard son of los angeles... looks damn good. that playoff swagger hasn't worn off one bit.

we're up against a very formidable team in boston, and while experts talk about the "critical" loss of james posey, the steady improvement of their younger, non-big-3 core will more than offset that loss. i cannot WAIT for a regular season finals rematch. this season is going to be an awesome ride.

I'll take Marion over Lamar any day.

Marion is a BEAST defensively. He can guard anyone, 2 feet taller or smaller than him. He rebounds out of this world and can hit jumpers from just about any where on the hardwood. But like Lamar, he is not consistent with his shooting. Lamar on the other hand is left handed which gives him the upper hand against most big men especially when running coast to coast with the ball. Either way, Marion is an overall better asset for the Lakers. He can do what Lamar can and then some…

Eather way the're going to loose tonight!

818... you hit it on the head bro. marion has basically had a whole year off for r&r. he didn't get hurt last year- miami phoned the season in and pulled him from the lineup so they could land the #1 or #2 pick (which they did). when it comes to rebounding, it's a wash between him and odom. but defensively, while odom's no slouch, marion's probably one of 3 guys in the league who can legitimately defend the 2, 3 and 4 position every game. +1 over odom. the part of his game that i really like (over odom) is that he can shoot the 3 without conscience. maybe one of the ugliest shots in the league, but he'll take em when he's open, and convert a decent percentage. but with odom, you can see the negative body language everytime he's open w/ the ball in his hands on the perimeter. we can definitely use the extra spacing from a wing starter who can provide that 3pt threat. when great defenses like the celtics double up, play zone or gamble, that open look will be there for marion 5-6x a game in the triangle. i should probably also mention that he can flat out jump faster and higher than just about anyone. you won't see him blowing soft layups after motoring to the hole like odom. he's going to posterize anyone trying to stand in his way.

clipper fans: if you win tonight, i'll come to your house and clean your skimmers. but if you lose, you have to clean mine :)

micro.. yea, Marion is good at converting a 2 point plays into 3 point plays by going in for a dunk... or simply because he has such an insane hang time. And I agree his mechanics for shooting aren't the best hahaha! Him and Sasha would be cool to use as threats on the wing to open up the lane for easy buckets.

why did marion leave phoenix? exactly? their is no room for him in the lakers.(we do not need players that want to be the man on this team cus we already have the man) odom is a team player and get the job done for what is expeceted of him. i would not do a thing to this team until they can go a complete season with no injuries. i know its just two games but they look scary!!! they are playing d and are not giving up big leads. the second team that comes of the bench would have beat the clippers by themselves tonight. i think we have a great for many years to come.....

Marion didn't leave, he was involved with the big trade that brought Shaq to PHX. Some how PHX thinks Shaq would add points to their fast tempo game.. Marion is a self kept player who plays hard game in and game out, doing all this while under the radar.

Lamar on the other hand is whining because he is not considered as a starting team player. He is part of the second unit, yet I don't see him as a threat on either unit. Hes 6'11 and can driblle the ball, and make shots on occasion. He doesn't have an agressive mentality so he has a tendacy not to be noticed on certain nights. Marion will get 10+ off rebound and countless def rebounds while shutting his man down. Hes also a great pick and roll player with his high jumping ability, exactly what Phill Jackson likes coming off a high pick and roll.

sorry for rambling.. its dark and late. im off to bed lol gn
