as you all already know I'll be moving to the area in August

I am wondering if anyone can recommend any golf courses in west county area

I am trying to keep it under 3,000/yr if possible

thanks if you can help...hopefully there are some golfers on here

PS: does Missouri have 12 months of golf per year?

Bellerive Country Club is here but I am sure it is more than 3K a year. But we have lots and lots of great Golf Courses here in the area.

I can't help you with membership recommendations but there are a lot of nice public courses in St. Louis. You won't have any trouble finding nice courses once you get here. My favorite is Annbriar in Waterloo, IL - it's a little slice of heaven.

The handicap season is March through October. Nov - Feb are usually too cold to get out.

wow, thanks for the responses...I have looked into winghaven and even have had the guy there call me a few times....

the only problem with winghaven is the $5,000 initiation fee...which is finance-able and fully refundable...I guess that might work...who cares if I lose some interest from the finance....plus it is like 230/month or something like that....I have not seen it or any other courses in person...hopefully I'll be able to check out the places you all recommend when Im down...I have planned the trip for either July 4-6 or July 5-7 haven't decided what im doin for the 4th yet

You will NOT get 12 months of golf.

If you are interested in West County or close to it.

Might be too pricy but you have

Forest Hills Country Club
St. Albans County Club
GreenBriar
Meadowbrook is pretty nice
Bellerieve is very, very expensive!

There also Tapawingo National Golf Club
Sunset Country Club
Quail Creek

Some are better than others but I live in west county and those are what I would recommend for a short drive

First of all let me say that the St Louis area is saturated with golf courses. You can find courses that are challenging for any handicap.

You can play golf all 12 months in St Louis. I have played the day after Christmas as well as New Years Day. It just all depends on the weather and if the course is open.

I have a handicap of 7 and enjoy these courses

Crystal Springs Quarry Golf Club
12163 Prichard Farm Rd.
Maryland Heights, MO
(314) 344-4448

Gateway National Golf Links
Madison, IL
(618) 482-4653
or MO (314) 421-4653

Emerald Greens
12385 Larimore Rd
St. Louis, MO
(314) 355-2777

One other course, but it is a drive, is

Governors Run Golf & Country Club
3300 Governors Dr.
Carlyle, IL (618) 594-4585

Most of the courses that the other members have said are nice courses. I agree, Annbriar is a nice course.

My neighbor is a member at The Bluffs in St. Charles. It is a very nice semi private course and should be full private soon. I have played there alot and it is a tough course. Winghaven is expensive and has some silly requirements about spending at the clubhouse to maintain a membership. I would at least look at The Bluffs if I were you the course is beautiful and well taken care of.

bkh, I have never heard of a private club that does not have a monthly spending requirement....however at some for the junior membership (non voting) which I would be since Im nowhere near 35 years old, the monthly fee is usually waived

I talked to my neighbor the bluffs is $230 a month and has two levels of members one is 6 grand for a one time fee that is refundable after a certain time period and the other is $1700 one time fee that is not refundable. I have talked to some members there that were members at winghaven and they said winghaven is tough to get your membership fee refunded from. Three new members have to join before they refund one and the list was long when I talked to the guy. He may have been exagerating but I think he said he was number 85 or something like that. Good luck in your search.

thanks for the info bkh....

the only reason I was looking into some of these privates is just because publics usually don't have anything on the net and thats the only way I can browse from ND

anyways...as a full time student with only loan income IM pretty sure that I wont be doing the private thing anyways...who knows how long I'll be in the area after schooling etc, and trying to find replacement members to get a refund might be a giant pain in the ***

anbrirar over in waterloo IL is 350 a month. nice champion chip course.

you wont find many country clubs for less than 3k a year. most are around 15-30,000 just to get on the list!
