Any of you guys use these yet? I forgot I bought two of them and they finally got delivered to me.

My TV does it automaticly from its internet connection or my samsung note tablets and / or samsung laptop automatically without the need for any adaptors......are you sure you TV wont do it buy it self

by the way I didn't even realize it did it as easy as it does until one day I was using my kids tablets and accidentally was streaming it up to the TV

Your tv allows you to display office documents and PDFs? It allows you to show your web browser on the TV?

My Apple TV nor Samsung smart tv allow these options. And The Samsung app doesn't turn the TV on and to the correct source when I start "streaming" content.

Plus I find my Samsung apps to be clunky to navigate. Apple TV is nice but too restrictive Orr stuff it should be able to do.

I want to try the chromecast, let me know how it is. But also an FYI. You can Mirror your desktop to your tv wirelessly via Apple TV. If yo have a newer iMac or Macbook it can be done natively. If you have an older one like i do or windows you can download a program called AirParrot. I stream movies from my iMac, in HD, and with sound to my Apple TV wirelessly then to my TV via the HDMI port.

if you have a new samsung TV ( smart tv series. - 6 and above )
and have a samsung s3 or above. you can do this natively via all share play.

if you have an older tv there is a dongle you can buy to get all share to work. i think the dongle is like 40 bucks.

Yeah, I have an older MacBook. I saw Ti mirror his macbook air his house and tried it. Thats when i found out it only works with certain os devices. And since my wife doesn't have a MacBook. She can also use her laptop to cast as well.

Something to also think about, Apple TV is $100 while chromecast is $35 if you can find one in stock.

I think the best is yet to come.

I tried it out last night and setup is pretty easy with the chromecast app. I set it up using the app and my iPhone in just a couple minutes. Now I can browse Reefcentral on my 60" TV :)

I was able to drag a movie to my chrome browser tab and immediately stream video. One if the videos had a slight delay in it. The other worked flawless. I'm going to try some others later today.

The only thing I don't like is there looks to be no remote control functionality like Apple TV.

Maybe there are better options out there. But I am happy for the price/performance.

Regarding Samsung AllShare. Ill play with it some more. But last time I checked. They did not offer OS support.

its gotta be all the same manf, i.e. Samsung to samsung. ( Galaxy phones to Samsung TV's - new versions of smart tv )

I got one, I figured why not when it was $11 (after the netflix credit which I already pay for). Honestly I don't use it, I hope google lets people develop apps for it soon, the most useful app that allowed you to stream anything to it was killed by google, so I'm upset by that, but we shall see.

I saw that but the guy reverse engineered it which was against googles policy or something like that.

You can do pretty much the same thing using Chrome and extensions. No extension needed to play movies. I'll see if I can drag a photo to chrome and have it cast. Pretty much anything displayed in a chrome tab can be cast.

The great thing about this is that it's cross platform.

The difference was his app did it natively, it didnt need to transcode. From the chrome tab works but soemtimes its a little choppy because my laptop is aging.

I just as said hope they finalize the api and release it, they keep sayign its beta and wont auth any apps. If plex could add support that would be badass.

And yes, he did reverse engineer it because they won't accept his official app, hopefully they will eventually.

Sounds like they are getting like apple :\

It's an interesting gadget with potential. I hope google gets their act together.

This is what i like about Apple TV. Yeah, its way more expensive, but i don't have to worry about extensions and apps and dragging and this and that and the other. It just works. I hate dealing with tech stuff and apple is great for ppl like me

Actually Jorge, what's nice is I don't have to convert my movies via iTunes to play. And once I have the directory in chrome. I just click on the movie I want to play.

I love my Apple TV. But for $35, this could give Apple TV a run for its money. Rumor has it a new Apple TV is on the horizon. We'll see what happens. I don't understand why apple doesn't allow one to connect a Bluetooth keyboard to it, install safari. It would be awesome. Oh wait, they want me to buy a new mac book. Lol

I feel like an idiot. Lol my friend ask me if I've seen the Vevo app. I say no and he tells me to update my Apple TV. Low and behold I notice the Bluetooth options in settings. So yes you can use a Bluetooth keyboard with Apple TV. That's what I get for not keeping it updated.

I personally didn't think AppleTv was that great. I have one, and it honestly was not that great unti I jail broke it and installed plex on it, now it's quite usable.

Yeah....thats definitely the bad thing about Apple....you can't keep using it unless you upgrade at their pace. I have a new enough macbook that works well with my Apple TV and I can stream anything from my iphone or ipad via airplay. That said, my ipad is a Gen 1 and I really don't want to get a new one but they stopped releasing software updates for it which in Apple language means it'll stop working soon. :mad2:

Think I'll stick to my Android mini pc. Thinking of picking up the new quad core with bluetooth. Have the first Gen one that has no bt, and is kind of slow.

As far as streaming to a TV, I have tried:

Apple TV
Roku
WD Live

Nothing compares to connecting a real desktop computer to your entertainment system and then adding a wireless keyboard. A PC is not limited like all the other stuff.
