OT---Grand Prix Racing in STL

I have been there, although it is alittle pricey, it is a blast. If I was not doing this hobby, I would be joining one of the Race Leagues they have.

they have deals once a month or so on the radio where you get a free race when you buy the liscense ($25 savings, cost $12 for the liscense which is mandatory anyway)

I went for the first time this weekend. They have different go carts that are even faster than the 0 - 40 in 3 seconds. In order to drive them you have to complete at least one lap per race in under 23 seconds in 2 consecutive races. I did not make it but we saw some people who did. It looked like they were just drifting through the whole course.

What I found most impressive was the print out you get at the end of the race that tells you all your stats for each lap, where you ranked in your race and what you rank overall for the year.

They do more business having business groups and even bachelor parties.

I am thinking we need to have a SEASL meeting there!!!!!

Winner gets FRAGS

Chad, They did not have the price listed for the leaguew when I was there, they were still getting it together. I just expect it to be pricey.

I'll definately be there. :)

I have not been there yet but I race real go-karts. the kind that go from 0 to 100 and back in 9 seconds. Thats a rush! Actually 1 of racing buddies had the fastest time there for a little while. THere is a track in Pevely Mo where they race gas g0-karts in the summer. www.slka.net go check that site out.

If I remember right, leagues were $300 for six weeks. That gets you one practice race a week, then the league itself. That's if I remember right, but it was something like that.

At 20 MPH, I would suspect nothing. At 90 MPH, I would suspect a lot. I've personally driven at 120~130 (in a car, not a go-kart). Minor bumps are a big deal and minor direction changes are a big deal too.

well I agree in a car as I have been well over 140 ,but you cant have much suspension when you are that close to the ground or it will scrape the ground and that would scrub speed that you wouldnt want to loose as well as tear up the cart. A car is a whole different story. Heck I can remember doing 160+ on a motorcycle and praying for no small rock or bump cause it would be game over !

all of the illegal, excessive, speed was done a closed course, with a professional driver ....right?

Ummm....sure. :D

Actually me and Rachel were in the middle of nowhere in Illinois. There was a stretch of highway where I was going down a small hill, there was a flat portion and then there was a slight hill up. You could see forever and there were no cars visible. (Yes, there are a few hills in Illinois ). When I started going up the second hill, I slowed down to the speed limit. Rachel, encouraged me to keep going fast but I told her no as I couldn't see way out in front of me.

I made the correct choice.....guess what was on the other side of that hill crest??? Those were "Go straight to jail, do not collect $200" speeds.

I think we have all done that at one time or another, 2 times actually for me. Once I was young and dumb, did 120+ mph on manchester road out by hwy 109 in a sedan.

Next was in a Porshe 968, same location. this time it was 135 mph, that one was more fun, and just a few years ago.... shows I have not, learned much...

You dont get as much of a adrenaline rush on a closed course.:D
Seems much more fun and more adrenaline when there are more unknowns . Havent done over 125 in a couple years, but dont think i will ever forget the few times I did, especially 160+ on a bike. Speed = fun

:D
