OT: Heard back about the job...

NeveSSL

Got tubes?
The bad news is that I didn't get it for some reason. The good news is that I'll be staying around. :)

Just wanted to let you guys know.

I'm fairly bummed about it, but we'll see what happens. From what I hear they had more interviews after the initial 3 I took part in.

Oh well! Back to the grind of grad school. ;)

Brandon

Sorry to hear it Brandon!! Just keep the experience from this one and apply it to the next interview :-)

I believe in fate... must not have been the right job for you. You would have hated likely and a better one is right around the corner. :)

Exactly, Andy!

And I hear ya, Michael. There are future potential jobs where I am now, so maybe they will pan out. :)

Brandon

Sorry to hear this Brandon. There will other fish in the aquarium so to speak and this means you have a shot a a job here in the area which will work well for your wife.

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys. :)

Mark: It was an IT position at Oak Ridge National Labs. Its not exactly my specific career path, but it is something I love to do and had to take a shot at a federal job. :)

And I agree, Tim. Maybe something will work out better here. I didn't want to have to join ETRC, anyway. j/k ;)

No worries man,you'll find something.

Unrelated but kind of not: I remember when I sent out my first three resumes after I graduated, just KNOWING I'd have a job in a week or so. Man I was dip.

At least you got to interview. I made such a heel out of myself on my first programming interview (so much so I have red cheeks right now just thinking about it). Needless to say, that interview was worth its weight in gold in learning what to expect. So at least you can take something from your experience.

I've been thinking around the same lines, Chuck. :)

I'm actually considering emailing the manager that interviewed me and ask for suggestions and advice for future interviews. Its probably going to sting a bit, but could be the difference between getting the job and not next time.

That sucks.... I mean Whoohoo  :D

Look at it this way, at least now your available for the next one that comes along. And its just like when you buy something, you always find something better right after you buy it.

Now lets get started on some DIY stuff...... Reef tank and Electronic,

If you're really interested, LMK and I'll send you the name and email of the head of IT at the SNS. She used to work in my division and might have some "unadvertised" openings.

I would.....what could it hurt? I'm sure he (she) realizes that you're fresh out of school, and eager to enter the job market.

There's an art to interviewing. I never was that good at it, but I guess I did enough to get by. But you do get better as you do more of them.
Whatever you do or say.....maintain eye contact with them.

I hear ya, Rick. Seriously, I'm thinking about building an 8 ch. pre based on the INA217 and maybe we could do a DIY 1176 or LA-2A. :)

PM sent, Dave. :)

I'm going to try to send that email today, Mark. Like you said, it can't hurt. Worst case scenario is that he doesn't reply. :)

As someone who will be looking for a job very shortly, I feel your pain man.

Don't know of anyone looking for a statistician, someone with research training (a la market research), or someone with a sweet tenure-track faculty position that is willing to take me a semester before I finish my Ph.D.? :)

Tenure-track is lobster stuffed filet mignon... and I wouldn't yet know what that tastes like because I am about to order but I really hope the kitchen didn't run out of it.
