I just got a seat belt ticket today and was wondering if anybody has gotten one recently and knows how much the fine is? It could be worse, he could have written me up for speeding instead of just giving me a warning.

it used to be 22, the last i heard it got rediculous. i think over a 100. sorry

what city???

depends on how the violation is classified. if it is a moving violation, then it will be removed off ur record in 7 years.

It wasnt a moving violation because I didnt get a point on my record for it, just a $22 fine and today he said it wasnt a moving violation.

How can you get a seatbelt ticket if you're not moving?Or,if you were moving how can it not be a moving violation?Or,didja just get lucky?

I thought all moving violations stay on your record for 3 years and major violations such as DUI, wreckless, etc stays on your record for 5 years. Bankruptcy stays on your credit record for 7 years though.

moving violations stay on your record for 5 years I believe ( or 7 years) insurance companies look for insurance purposes up to 5 years. (tickets are infractions which are removed from your record)
there is no such thing as a major violation.
if you receive a DUI or wreckless driving ticket, then it is a misdemeanor and stays on your record for life. Although I am not an attorney, yet.

Several new occupant protection laws have been passed that will affect California drivers in 2004 and 2005:

As of January 1, 2004 the cost of a seat belt ticket more than tripled, and now runs from $78 to $89 on a first offense, depending upon the county. Legislation (AB 1625), authored by Assemblyman John Benoit, allows penalty assessments and court costs to be added on top of a base fine. In essence, what previously cost $22.50 on a first offense will now run more than three times that amount. Drivers will also face penalties if passengers are not safely buckled.

I think the key points in that quote are it depends on the county and penalty assessments and court costs may be added.

Maybe the slogan should be "Save a buck, buckle up".
