OT: Hughes v. Gracie

Matt dominated the fight winning via stoppage due to strikes. Royce never stood a chance. Matt took him down, went to his back and punched til Big John stopped it.

Matt almost had an armbar submission, amazed Gracie didn't tap.

Punch of the night went to Melvin Guillard, hardest hitting punch I've ever seen, the other guy was out before he hit the ground.

Gracie did not look very good. Matt was just too strong. Combined with his very good technical abilities Royce was out matched.

I woudl not be surprised if Royce has elbow damage. That was a wicked submission attempt.

I still hate Matt.

Royce is just too old now. Look at Shamrock and his recent streak of results fighting. These guys were pioneers when the MMA game first started but now things have evolved so much that I can't really see them producing like they did in the past.

I like Matt Hughes but I personally don't like the UFC too much because fighters just lay on each other too much. I prefer Pride where they stand you up if the action isn't progressing.

Im with you on both accounts.

This Hughes/Gracie match was a tad to WWE for me. Royce really had no chance in this fight. The UFC did a great job at promoting it, but Royce had no chance.

Royce is good at BJJ, he is not good in MMA. He is slow and methodical, his style is to wait patiently until you make a mistake. Against Matt, that wasnt going to happen. He is way to smart and has way too much skill to get caught.

Although Matt's reign will soon be over as soon as he fights GSP or BJ Penn again.

And Royces arm should be perfectly fine, he wasn't in any real danger unless Matt could have bent the arm at the elbow and secured a Kimura or a Keylock. As long as Royce had his arm straight, he wasnt in any real danger.

As for the UFC and the lay-n-pray issue, thats just one of many many issues they have. On top of that they have crack pot judging and the referees! How did Sanchez win that fight?????? How could the referee let that fight go in that position for over 3 min when it was an obvious stalemate?

Because Sanchez is a golden boy for the UFC and a loss there would have been horrible for buisness.

I feel bad for Royce. He was doomed from the start, but I was still hoping he'd win. I just didn't like the fact that Matt Hughes didn't give him respect. Matt is a great fighter and all - one of my favorites - but Hoyce was a master at his art and to the sport as a whole.

I really thought if/when it went to the ground, Matt might have a hard time. I was way off, Royce never had a chance. He seemed waaaaay out of his league. I also think that elbow took a lot more damage than his face did. I wouldn't be surprise if something didn't pop in there.

Sorry for butting in but did you guys agree with the decision of the fight that went the distance. I think one guy had it 27 - 30 and I didn't see that at all.

Absolutely ridiculous decision. If anyone agrees with that decision, I can post the rules from NSAC so you can see how bogus it really was. That fight almost ruined the night for me!!!

Alessio won that fight 29-28. He won the first two rounds.

Who is watching PRIDE FC sunday?? Its the start of the LW asnd WW tournaments!!! Should be realllly good.

I thought the Alessio/Sanchez fight should have at least been scored even up to that point. Should've fought another round.

Next UFC PPV- UFC 61 on July 8.

Arlovski v.s. Sylvia

Ortiz v.s. Shamrock

and FRANK MIR COMES BACK.......Again :)

Two Important Matchups Added to UFC 61 Card

There will be plenty on the line when UFC 61 â€"œ Bitter Rivals takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday, July 8th, and not just in the featured bouts between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock, and Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski.

In an intriguing heavyweight clash, former UFC champion Frank Mir will hope that his second comeback fight is more successful than his first when he tackles emerging contender Dan Christison.

At UFC 57 in February, over 16 months after a severe leg injury put him on the shelf, Mir returned to the Octagon against Brazil’s Marcio Cruz and was stopped in the first round. But with five more months of training to get his game back to where it was before the injury, the Las Vegan is ready to once again make a statement in the heavyweight division.

Standing in his way will be 6-8, 265 pound Dan Christison, a member of the cast of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, season two, who made a huge splash in the big show on April 6th when he submitted season two TUF finalist Brad Imes in the second round of an entertaining war that was one of the best fights of 2006 thus far.

Also added to the UFC 61 card is a meeting of two highly-regarded welterweight prospects, Josh Neer and Josh Burkman.

Neer, a member of the renowned Miletich Fighting Systems team, scored his second Octagon win in April when he upset season two TUF welterweight winner Joe Stevenson via a hard-fought three round unanimous decision. On that same show, Utah’s Burkman suffered his first UFC loss when he was submitted by Jon Fitch in the second round. With the talent-rich welterweight division heating up, the winner of this match will make huge strides up the 170-pound ladder.

I missed the LW/WW tourney but I just saw the Open Weight tourney a few days ago! Talk about some good fights!! WOW!

I've never seen blood splatter on a camera because someone got rocked so hard!

Has anyone here seen "The Smashing Machine"?? Awesome documentary if you want to see a fighter's perspective in the MMA game and the rise and fall of a great fighter!

The OWGP had some good fights and some pretty entertaining ones! Wanderli Silva has been put into the next round to replace Fedor since his hand is still hurt. Im really stoked about that!

I was mistaken about the last PRIDE. It was only the WW tournament with some LW fights on the card. But just the WW were having a tournament. There were some great fights, some BRUTAL KO's. All in all a decent PPV. You get to see 11 fights I belive?? It was 3.5 hours!!!

As "The Smashing Machine", awesome documentary! Mar Kerr was a beast in his day.
