I got a call this afternoon telling me my German Sheperd died, at first I thought it was an April fools joke. Came home to find my dog stiff. I don't understand how she died, she was perfectly fine yesterday. She was 9 years old and perfectly healthy. I suspect someone poisoned her, anyone had an autopsy done on their dog? Problem I have too, is SEAACA is closed until monday, don't know what to do to preserve her body until them to get her cremated.

Sorry to hear your loss. If you do suspect foul play, by all means, get an autopsy. Might be pricey, but might give u some comfort.

Thanks. I'm trying not to jump to conclusions, but I suspect someone. Had a conflict with a contractor we let go that was working on our house.

Sorry, that sucks. I'd get an autopsy too if I where in your shoes. Could the dog have gotten into some household chemicals or something?

Wow..so sorry.Maybe your vet can do bloodwork.I know they can handle holding your dog and the cremation details.

That is so sad. I'm really sorry to hear it. If it was that contractor, he deserves to have his b@lls chopped off.

That sucks bro. Definatley have a blood test and be sure to know if it was of natural cause or not. Youll live so much happier knowing how she died.

At first I thought I accidentally left the garage unlocked and thought she ate corals, but my garage door was locked when I got home and my family saw her in the rain this morning. I'm going to have them check her blood.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss...I dread the day I lose one of my companions. I have one 14 year old cat, one 13 yr old dog, and two eleven year old dogs. Someone I know had their dog die of blood clots, she was only 6 yrs old.

If it will truly make you feel better, get a blood test. But bottom line your friend is gone and nothing will bring her back...I would'nt get one. I truly hope she died of natural causes.

sorry to hear about your loss, I know exactly how it feels. When I was a kid, I had a daschund whom I took care of for about 8 years. When I went to vacation with my dad for two months, he stopped eating and eventually got very sick but he still waited till I got back. The day after I came back home from vacation, he died. :(

I felt so bad because he just kinda "made sure" that I came back home safe before he died.

we just had to give away our 8 year old German because some ***** UPS guy sued us because our dog grabbed him when he tried to make a delivery...then insurance wouldnt insure my parents.....was sad..but I am happy he is in a good home.

As for your dog...I dont know if they can do much bloodwork, depending on how fast they can get to him...most of the blood solidifies pretty quick... I am sure an autopsy could help with checking out internal organs etc to see if foul play was involved.
Definitely get it done and keep us posted....so sad to hear of losing a German since we dont have ours anymore either... best wishes.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss to. I'm a dog owner. You just can't trust anyone these days. More bad people out there then good. Maybe you can give a new dog a good home someday soon.
Take care,
DC

Sorry to hear about your loss. The vet held a dog of mine that died during the winter until spring so I could bury her after the ground had unfroze. They have big freezers for that type of thing.

I decided not to investigate whether she was poisoned. My parents told me to think she died of age. I might end up doing something I'll regrete later if I find out the truth. I called SEAACA today and they picked her up and cremated her. I'm going to take a break from having a dog for a couple of months. We've own dogs for the past 22 or so years, but losing her is hard because it wasn't her time. We we're thinking of buying a dog, but they're asking a lot of money, so we have decided once we're ready, we are going to adobt a German Sheperd.

Sorry to hear, I have two GSDs myself. I would not think that it died of old age, as 9 is pretty young for a shepherd. I would consider that it may have been stomach torsion tough. Bigger dogs such as GSDs get looser stomach connective tissue as they get older, and often if they eat or drink and then run around a bit their stomachs will flip. It knocks them out pretty quick and there is little you can do unless you rush them into surgery almost immediately. Sorry again to hear about your loss, when you are looking for another dog you may want to try www.gsrescue.org/

but as an Ex Fedex employee who has been chased by several dogs please understand that if you have a dog in your yard and he is not chained or behind a fence POST A SIGN!!!

you may be mad at the UPS guy but he is the one that was bit by your dog when he was just doing his job..
