OT I'm having a baaaddd week!!

First my transmission goes in the van this weekend (only $625 for a used one! Just waiting on the estimate for the labor)!! Then my BIL is moving up here from MD and he brought his 55 african cichlid tank up last night, well brilliant me chimed in and told him to bag up the fish and put them in a cooler to travel, well he was too tired to set up the tank last night and left the fish till this morning and you guessed it.. they suffocated!!! I am so bummed about this because he was going to put them in buckets but I told him not to as they would get too cold. I feel so guilty! On the up side I did find one survivor in all the carnage that he didn't see and I threw it in my fw tank as it is his only chance of survival. If he does okay I will pull him out asap before he eats my fish but luckily he's small. Anybody know where I can get good african cichlids? I would love to find him some good ones to replace what died (okay and maybe make myself feel better!)

Pm'd ya! And don't beat yourself up...he could have thought to change his water out last night or figure something else out, if he didn't want to set the tank up.

I know... I just feel bad because if I didn't chime in and had him do it my way they probably would have been fine. Oh well I will feel better eventually I also think of the poor fish!

Hey Barb, sorry to hear about the trouble but if you think about it, fish go in bags, in coolers for overnight delivery that can take up to 24 hours. So the bagging might have played a part in it, but shouldn't have killed them that quickly. If the water parameters were off, and the bags weren't set for 60% air there might have been an issue. But it has passed and hopefully you will be able to get this set up going again.

Maybe I can make you feel good about what happened to you. I tore my Achilles tendon and needed surgery. Won't be hauling buckets of water for 10-12 weeks or so. Can't even stand to feed the fish right now.
