The owner of the garden center I get all of my material from is now making maple syrup. I stopped in there today to talk about buying one of his mowers and saw his new baby. He has just gotten a state of the art machine. It wasn't even invented 3 years ago. This thing is a monster. Its like 15 feet long and 12 feet high.

Anyway, he gave a sample of syrup right out of the line. It was the best maple syrup I have ever had, and we normally use real maple syrup.

If anyone is interested, I can give you his contact info and you can order some from him. I will be buying a gallon tomorrow. It is not run of the mill syrup. I will try to post a pic of the machine....its on my phone.

MODS: I am not affiliated with his business and I am not making any money for this. I just wanted to let people know about it.

I was going to make syrup this year, but the weather didn't really cooperate with me. They make some pretty big evaporators. Maybe if the weather cooperates this weekend...

he said this thing was about 70k. It was pretty impressive. I'm used to hillbilly syrup making...with 55g metal drums cut in half to boil it up. I walked in and said "well hello Mr. Chemist".

If anyone watches breaking bad on AMC, it reminded me of when Walter first walked into Gus' lab.

he said it was burning at like 2.5 million BTU....freaking nuts!

That's a lot of stainless sheet! I've done some stovetop maple syrup from a single tree in our yard and it was a lot of fun. He must have a huge lot of hardwoods backing up to the building? Or does he collect it and truck it in?

My neighbor ( we are in the sticks) has an operation like that. Pretty impressive. He's been making it for several years now. It is very good. I could hear the machinery collecting at the end of February this year!!

Windyridge, are you referring to Many Maples farm? They're in your area and are family friends. We buy 6 or 8 gallons from them each spring. Needless to say we really like syrup. :D

When I was a kid, my family and our neighbors pitched in for a boil rig and tapped about 60 acres. Us kids would run from tree to tree as they tapped and we'd suck sap straight from the trees before they put the lines on. Then at the end of the season when we got down to the last few gallons of sap we'd boil hot dogs in it. Lots of great memories!

Nope, Foggy Hollow on Stage Rd. Where is Many Maples? It rings a bell.
Wow that is a lot of syrup!
Boiled hot dogs in syrup sounds pretty good!
