OT: Laptop will not start, flickering keyboard lights-black screen

POST = Power On Self Test. BIOS = Basic In Out System

If your not seeing anything on the LCD you can't tell if it's POSTing.

Couple suggestions:

First Suggestion
1. Remove the battery and AC power from the laptop.
2. Hold down the power button for a full 60 seconds (discharging all capacitors)
3. Next plug in AC power only and try to power it on

Second suggestion
1. Try connecting an external monitor to it's VGA port to see if your getting anything there.

If nothing yet PM me as I'm certified on these POS's lol

Thanks for your help.

I tried your first suggestion and it didn't work. When I get home later I can try your second suggestion. I am now looking around at different laptops because I used my computer daily for school and is currently a big issue without it. So if it appears that this all doesn't work, what laptop brands appear to be the best? I hear great things about asus but I have my eye on a sony vaio. Any love for ienovo? Toshiba? With all the bad comments I hear about HP I am steering clear of them.

Thanks all the help guys. I just don't want to get a new laptop and then everyone is like "ohh you got an X, why did you get that junk?" lol

I have a client who just got 22 vaio's 2 months ago generation 2 i5 I set them up for him and no issues to speak of. when you get 22 laptops and you get no issues that's good. I have ordered 10 dells and at least 1 would have problems same with HP, Asus, Gateway not so much Toshiba. Just do your research what you want and what you need. Take your Hp that just crapped out on you; the model you had sucked but Hp has made good models so don't count out any maker just do your research. read the customer reviews go to tigerdirect.com or newegg.com or get professional reviews from Cnet.com. imo

I've had my macbook for 4 years, still going strong, no issues. Kinda wish it did have some issues, so I could justify getting a macbook air :-)

Good luck with everything Matt, and I know what you mean about Mac's high prices. I've had a Toshiba for 2 years with no problems, and I bought it at Best Buy for $400, so it's hard for me to justify spending so much on an Apple, when I could buy a decent new Toshiba, Lenovo, Asus, etc every 3 years for 12 years and would still have saved money over an Apple without falling behind in performance due to age.

Okay well I tried your second suggestion and it didn't work.

I am about to go purchase a sony vaio VPC EH13 FX/B in an hour or so. Anyone have anything bad to say about that one?

Thanks

-Matthew

don't buy a vaio my brother and i bought vaios at the same time. They had package deals a year ago. 7 months later within the same week they both stopped working. I was using mine an hour before it just stopped turning on.

If you want the best, get an Alienware, trust me. You can get an m11x R1 or R2 on the dell outlet site for $500-$600. And it will be more powerful than anything else you will find off the shelf. It eats macs for lunch
