OT - light switch wiring question

I'm guessing it has to do with the time stamp. Although my time is correct is posted DST instead of PST. :) Wonder what it will be this time... :)

OT - light switch wiring question

Okay - so I am switching out two 3-way light switches in the hall . I have hooked them up the same way the old ones were wired, but now they don't work quite right. If I can turn on the light with switch #1 I can then turn it off with either switch, but I can only turn it back on with the switch that turned it off.

Does that make sense?

#1 turns it on and I can turn it off with both #1 & #2

Then I can only turn back on with the switch that turned off the light. So, I turn off with #2 and can only turn the light back on with switch #2 as #1 does nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I have tried switching the 2 non-live wires but can't seem to get it right. I have 2 black wires and one red wire for each switch. I have the red wire connected to the black screw and the black wires connected to the silver screws on either side of the switch.

How did my post get put above yours?

We'd had a server down for about 24 hours. When it came up, the RTC had drifted. It took a few minutes for it to sync up.

kim - just make sure it works - on/off, dim - whatever you want it to do from both switches. my house almost burnt down a little over a week ago because the previous tenant wired in a dimmer switch and wired the 'hot' wire to the 'neutral' [if i remember right].

It is working perfectly now. I do believe I got it right. Thanks though, I certainly don't need any fires!! I will keep an eye on it.
