OT: Local Internet Service Providers

GMT is 5 hours ahead of EST... I did this in "primetime". Why would I use an washington DC server instead of an Miami server?

The speed in comcast is determined by how many people are on the network. So if you ping a server in Washington DC at 5:00 p.m. at peak not gmt which is not at peak you will see the real speed. gmt is England and at the time it says on your image it is late in the night so the speeds will be higher. do the test on a server that is in the same time zone as you in peak.

the biggest turn off for comcast when i was shopping a year ago was that the package are similar in price and comcast was just a bit faster for the first little bit then slower for more money then att on no contract with a constant speed. the problem with att is the modem router setup i dont like how its set up and i dont like having to rent equipment but for saved money i can get over it lol.

I play with the big boys now.

hehe...Its fibernet. The trick is, speedtest has a fibernet server. Fibernet doesnt limit the bandiwidth to its own server...My upload is really around 300 megs but I'm plugged into a 100mb switch right now so its limiting.

The true connection is 50/50

There are 2 types of internet for the home:

Cable
A shared very high speed internet connection using the cable tv lines. Shared- you share it with neighbors. So you can get very high peek connection numbers but when more of your neighbors go online your speeds decrease.
Cable companies put limiters on your line restricting your peak speeds in order to sell you higher plans. Pay more you get more bandwidth.

DSL:
A private connection using the old telephone lines that connect you directly to the phone co. The advantage here is you get the speed they promise you no matter what the neighbors do. The bad news is that you never get those great peek speeds.

A lot of you having a good connection is where you live in relation to the phone company or the cable box down the street. I am the last house on the block and I am the farthest away from the box. So I get slower speeds. You will never know where you are unless you talk to their tech.

Lastly speedtest website gets priority. If you go to their site those packets of data get through the pipe. So hold there numbers with a grain of digital salt.

There are no perfect solutions unless you can get fiber optics right into your home. Not likely today.
All the companies have awful customer service!

Good luck
