Never seen a lunar rainbow. What did you have to do to get that? Long exposure time, etc?

Never seen a lunar rainbow.

That's because it's generally not visible to the naked eye. ;)

That image was 30 seconds at f/4.0 and ISO 400.

As always, very nice Doug. Did you hike out and try to find the gold at the end?

ive never even heard of a lunar rainbow... very cool capture! Is it forming from the mist off of the falls or from something else?

Thanks for sharing Doug.

Dude! I'm glad you didn't hear the string of expletives that issued forth spontaneously in appreciation of your skill when I viewed your image. Seriously, from image capture through post processing.

Doug as usual simply breathtaking!! Your photos always amaze me. Someday I would love to be half as good as you.

~Dee~

Thanks folks!

RB - Honestly, this one is pretty much straight out of the camera. I gave it a quick curves tweak but that was it. I didn't even use my regular workflow. I'll have more images from both nights that I was there as soon as I get the chance to process them properly.

Cheers

Fantastic shot Doug.

Yeah, it's from the moonlight in the fall mist. They're also sometimes called "moonbows".

mmmm, I may like the second one even more.... In fact I do. Still get that star filled sky but with more detail and sense of place regarding the sheer cliffs and falls Yosemite is so well known for. N I C E . (btw - it's spring, so I am expecting some shots of those pesky black campground bears too!)

What focal lengths were used for the shots?

Both images are excellent but the second one is more powerful to me because the falls are in a greater "position of power", and the power of them is evident from the water mist. Still the first one emphasizes the insignificance of earthly features with respect to the universe and tells a compelling tale.

I keep looking at these two pics everytime I come back to this thread and I have a question. Louis, is that you standing up in the crevis of those mountians???

I know, it's probably a tree or something, but it reminds me of the shot of you in your avatar.
