OT - Making a website.... How hard is it ???

I know there are quite a few of you on here who are computer savvy, and I thought I would ask how hard it is to make a website.... What kind of software should I be looking for, or should I just find someone to do it for me and not waste my time ???

Im going to be starting my own business in 2 months after my current job ends and wanted to get a webpage going for it. I already registered the domain through godaddy, now I just need to make the actual page for it.

Does any of the web creating software also make a logo or anything ??? I'm decent in photoshop, but I just honestly dont know where to begin as far as creating a logo....

Any suggestions ?!?!?!?!?

This really depends on what you are doing with the webstie. Is it just an informational site? Or is it a functioning website that needs something like a shopping cart or more?

Dreamweaver will make whatever you are doing MUCH easier. But its expensive. Im in the market for a copy of it myself these days.

A really easy software is Microsoft Front page.. Its for beginners but It will get the job done fast and simple.. What is the name of your company and what are you selling.. This info would go a long way to get ideas for your logo..

Just informational. It's going to be for a handyman/remodeling company that I'm going to start, I just needed it to have about us, before and after pictures, contact us, etc. I just didnt want it to look horribly cheesy like a AOL homepage or something.

I figure Ive been doing this work for 15 years for other people, why not give it a try for myself. :D

Check out the software available through your hosting service, most offer some open source program for creating web pages. That's probably your best bet. If you're looking to purchase software, Dreamweaver is probably the most user-friendly software on the market.

Just do it yourself, or find some one that does it as a hobby. An informational website is super easy to put together. And you can even cheat and use a pre-made template. Then just fill in your information.

Photoshop is what you need to make a logo. Just save it as a jpeg or gif.

The first place I would look before dropping $400.00 on something like Dreamweaver is see if your hosting company has any templates available and/or editing software.
If you want something slick www.flashmo.com has some free Flash templates available. (of course you will need a copy of Flash to change it)

If you have a good sense for design and have a little understanding of the web, I say go for the challenge.
If you just want it done, find someone to do it for you.

There are many things that I'd like to be able to do, web wise, and imaging. I was born on the other side of the technology divide. How many years does a guy have to look at the same stupid avatar?
I guess, I'm looking for a tutor, especially one that will tutor for coral or a new hobbyist that would like to trade knowledge. Doug, sorry for the interruption.
I think the handyman business is going to a good one to be in as we baby boomers realize that our DIY days are over.
Best of luck with your new venture!

It's a bit intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it it's not bad. Basic html understanding is a great help for basic site design.

We had a friend help us immensely to get our site going, without his help it would have been much more difficult. (if he's reading) Thanks eL  I wont nominate him here, but I am sure if he's willing he will contact you.
