i would imagine chicago is much rougher. i can handle people asking for a dollar. happens a lot up here. i am much more concerned about my wife and childrens safety, education and how they are treated. worse case they will go to a private school. it seems memphis itself doesnt have much recommendation. what about AK any good places close to the state line? ill be checking out every place that has been suggested but can never have enough. again thanks all you have been very helpful and i appreciate it.
I lived in Chicago and the surrounding areas for 3 years .... I took the train everywhere and I worked downtown at night a..... However, I cant remember ever having some of the experiences Ive had here in Memphis feeling genuinely concerned for my well-being ..... Areas you might want to avoid like the plague .... Northhaven Southhaven Frasier .... anywhere in Memphis North of Jackson Ave .... even some parts of Raleigh I dont like to go to anymore .... Any street in Midtown, downtown, or anywhere else named after a State is 99% of the time very rough neighborhood .... Just to give you an idea what I mean :
Once on my way to work I was stopped at a traffic light @ Danny Thomas and Chelsea Ave and I saw someone rob a Mapco in broad daylight and then immediately get mugged by another guy in the same parking lot ....
Also Memphis doesnt have any kind of public Transportation to speak of other than the Mata bus line and the service it provides is a joke ..... Unless you live in some impoverished neighborhood you cant get a bus to take you anywhere other than east and west on Poplar Ave ... so I hope you own a car becasue when I moved back home I had to buy a new one
Eastern Shelby county ( cordova, arlington, collierville, and germantown ) South Western Fayette County ( Oakland, Eads, Fisherville, Hickory Widthe, Lakeland) or North Mississippi ( Olive Branch, Barton, Horn Lake ) All of these places are excellent for buying a home and most have good schools
Just FYI .... Downtown is for young people who want to live beyond their means or people who want to pay top dollar for a renovated roach motel :uzi: I wouldnt waste your time unless your planning on looking at some seriously overpriced property ....
Memphis Traffic compared to Chicago is nothing so commuting really isn't an issue here ... the expressway only really backs up anywhere in 3 places ..... 240 and I40 going East , 240 @ 385 northbound and downtown going southbound at what has come to be known as malfunction junction ... Longest i have ever sat anywhere though where there wasnt some catastrophic wreck was 15-20 minutes at the most
