OT--moving to memphis

hello, i may be relocating to the memphis area for my job. i am not familiar at all with the city or area and need help locating the best places to possibly move to. looking for good school district, and a good neighborhood or town in the area. doesnt have to be in memphis but preferably within 30-45 mins. any help is appreciated thanks
 
I would plead with your boss not to go there. I grew up in West Memphis....it's not a safe town. The racial tensions are unbelievable.

As to your questions, I haven't been running around Memphis since the 80's. The areas have changed, and I'm not familiar with the safe zones now. Like rcmike said, check with the West TN group. Good luck.
 
You might consider "Southhaven area" it is actually in Mississippi, there are a lot of areas south of Memphis to locate in. If you are working in North Memphis look at Millington & Covington.
 
Munford's not so bad, either;) (grew up there). It's definitely growing up. In Memphis, Mid Town isn't so bad. There are some nice little neighborhoods.
 
exactly what is pricey? whats so special about germantown? whats the normal price for a house? 4 bedrooms 2+ baths 2000 square feet plus? also taxes? i dont think it will even compare to where i am at now.
