Hey guys. I live in San Diego and because of a job change I will be moving to sacremento. Wondering if any of you could help out with some info.

For starters

where is a nice place to live, cause from what I hear there are alot of bad parts??

where are the fun places to vist?

where are the good lfs??

I am mainly looking for answers to the first question more than the latter 2.

Thanks any help would be appreciated. And if any of you guys know a good deal on an apartment or townhouse or something that would be rad too.

my aim is : supaboy1981

Some parts of ElkGrove, usually bordering outskirts of. Some parts of downtown can be nice as well, but check surrounding areas as some you only need to go a block before it gets pretty seedy. Folsom, Antelope, Roseville,Rocklin are all very nice areas that are within 20 minutes drive to downtown. Usually the higher the price the more desireable/safer location.

Some rough parts can be Oak Park,Del Paso Heights,Rancho Cordova, North Highlands, and Elk Grove/South Sac. These are the concentrated areas of problematic neighborhoods; stereotypically speaking.

Hope that helps a lil. Any chances of us swappin houses? I'd gladly trade you Diego land for Sac town :p heheh

Justin nailed it....

Oak park, del paso, north highlands, G-parkway, Florin.... Pretty much all of south sac is not the greatest, but not the worse. Ive seen worse.

Also, but with in those neighborhoods there are nice areas pocketed with in.

As an example

I was looking at a house in tahoe park area of sac, which is right down the road from the 9th ranked hospital in the state ( UC Davis Med center), But if I went across the street on stockton blvd into oak park... Its a time warp, ran down, ghetto, dirty.

I think most of " sacramento" is bad/ran down etc., Thats not including natomas, elk grove, or any of the "surrounding" cities.

Elk grove is nice and not to bad house price wise, Its where I work. Folsom is off of hwy 50 "lots of traffic" but its where all the ritzy and upscale house's are.

Carmichael is a nice area, but as its the normal, it depends on what part.

If you come up, I'd be glad to give you a drive and show N tell, Take you thru the ghetto which then leads you across the tracks into nice areas...

as to your other questions..... there are a few good LFS, yourreef, coral reef shop" NeW", Ost

Then there are the others, Exotic aquarium, Capital aquarium.

Some will say exotic is good and O st is not, Leave that up to your judgement :-)

OHHHHH and onto the nice and favorite question, fan places to visit.... hmmm???????????????????????????????

San francisco.... OH wait you mean locally ...
well depends on what you like to do and the type of person you are. I dont do much around sac, becuase for me there isnt much to do... One thing is Old town Sac is nice for a once in a while stroll. Which is about it, Sacramento is just a big old place in the middle of no where. Lots of bars and clubs

Thats my take, But as I always say... Ill leave the judging up to you, as you and I are different and you may like something I do not...

Hope your move goes well and Enjoy Sacatamatoes err I mean Sacramento :)

Hey Jonathan,

Where have you been? Haven't seen you on RDO in a llllooooonnnngggg time.

Anyway, find another job and stay in SD! It's too damn HOT here:lol:

I pretty much agree with what's been said so far. Elk Grove's great for families, as the schools are probably the best in the area, which is the biggest draw. The closer you are to South Elk Grove and I-5, the better. We also have 3 gaming shops ;)

Roseville's nice and safe. Lots of affordable housing is popping all around this area. I hear advertisements for nicely priced condos in gated communities all the time. You'll be closest to the best LFS in the area, too.

I haven't really ventured around Sacramento extensively, but from what I've seen, there are some nice places in West Sac, Pocket Area, and H Street in downtown.

Keep us posted, bra! Mahalo!

Davis is a great city if you want safety and have a family, but it is more expensive and may be harder to find a house. There is a green belt through the whole city and it is filled with parks. I live in Davis and work is Sac and it is about a 25 mile drive to work. Depending on how long you want to drive, you may want to check on freeways you'll be taking, some are far worse than others so you may live closer to work but it takes twice as long to get there.

There nothing wrong with south sac stop being scared haha but for the most part you guys are right towards I-5 there some really nice homes and neighborhoods were i like to live when i move out the dirtty south haha.

I agree with most that has been said....
Roseville...stay east of the RRtracks and you should be fine...
Folsom...pretty much any part...
Natomas...anything built in the past 5 years is nice..
Elk Grove....yuppy land...Hopefully I can be part of it soon....but it also can be a drive to get anywhere..
Davis...looks nice....but way to far to the left for my taste...they ticket people for snorring in their own homes...and have "light pollution" laws on the book...I mean come on people stay out of my life...

What area are you going to be working? It might be easier to go at it from that angle...

Check the flood risk, we have some low spots that are near very old levees.
Also, check the air quality. People tend to move up to the foothills to "get out of the smog" but a lot of those areas are worse than down here in the valley. We get a nice breeze up the river from the delta that blows the smog up against the hills.

ok does anyone know of any nice apt or condos in Elk groove or Rose ville that are in the nice areas and wont break my bank??

Where are you working? If you live in Elk Grove getting to Sac is like sitting in a parking lot during rush hour. I moved North to avoid the Overpriced Elk Grove homes, and I/5, Ca99 traffic ( hope I don't offend any Elk Grovers).

I would suggest Antelope or Roseville area. Natomas is up and coming with lots of new townhouses and condo's and is central to pretty much the greater Sac area.

I laugh when I see all the respones to the bad areas!! I grew up in DPH,Meadowview/pocket and North Highland areas and they are a walk in the park compared to 15-17 years ago.

My wife is going to be a district manager type for some retail stores. so she is going to have stores all over the place.

I work for Eb games so I can transfer pretty much anywhere I want.

How is the mall area around roseville? Arden I guess it called

by maddness
they are a walk in the park compared to 15-17 years ago.

In those days (and the many years before), most were man enough to settle things with flesh and bone. Different story, nowadays. Any fool can pull a trigger:(

OK here is a little bit of a narrower for you folks to help me out.

95815 and 95814 zip codes. Nicest place to live within a few miles from there I want to be safe and I want a good mix of folks there so I can make new friends. Thanks again for all your help I really appreciate it and I am looking foward to meeting a bunch of you soon. I am gonna need to make new friends and find a new set of happy hours to frequent.

I am also going to need some frags to setup my nano.

For those zipcodes you could find something nice in the pocket area, natomas, arden and carmichael. Theres some nice neighborhoods all through out there you just got to make sure you drive a few surrounding blocks that will give you the best idea of what neighbors you'll likely have and who will be goin in and out of your neighborhood as well. Definately not ghetto. Just dont head west on El Camino ;)

How far away if Roseville or Elk grove from there?

personally, i live in a decent apt. community in between arden fair mall and cal expo (the fountains-- my neighboring complex, the park, is supposed to be decent but i don't think that they have garages to park in).

we always have elevated car theft rates, though, because of events at cal expo and being smack dab in the middle of a not-so-perfect area. however, i park in a garage that i pay an extra $25 per month and have an alarm and haven't had a single issue-- not to mention the fact that i drive a 99 civic and they are one of the top 10 stolen cars every year, it seems. most break-ins occur when a car is parked on one of the main streets surrounding the complex.

if you're going to do some house-hunting-- definitely look at midtown (you can find some deals!) and natomas/elk grove. a three bed/2bth is running around 1300-1500/month in NICE areas. for less than perfect communities, you can find 3bd/2bth for less than a grand.

the best bet, however, is to drive around the area you think you might rent in at night. you'll get to see what kind of whackos are around you and you'll be able to see what goes on at night. also, check out this site for crime rates in whichever area you're interested in. http://maps.cityofsacramento.org/website/sacpd/

I think I have narrowed down the search to Roseville. Less traffic than elk grove and closer to our home stores.

Lemme know what you guys think and if any of you guys live there?

Whats the demographic?

Roseville

Roseville

Roseville is a nice area, but can be expensive in areas. There is TONS of construction going on all around town. New condo's, townhomes, and houses are everywhere.
I'm sure you would like wherever you decide out here. There aren't too many "bad" areas compared to downtown.
