OT: NBA Playoffs

It was nice to see The Logo there last night...he's such a huge supporter of Kupchak. He let Kobe know how disappointed he was in how he handled the trade demand. I'm sure he had a lot to do with him going to training camp, quietly.

I dont even know how to take this post.

Didnt Lebron make it to the finals last yr and with now team at all?

His team this yr isnt much better. lets not forget the past few yrs since shaq left how good the lakers have done? Crappy, why because Kobe had no team around him. He has a team now.

Lebron still has nothing and has made the Cavs a great team you stick Kobe on the Cavs team and they dont even make the playoffs.

How bout them Lakers haters?? "Kobe can't win without Shaq"..."Lebron is better than Kobe"..."Kobe doesn't deserve the MVP"...

SHUT MOUTH!

First of all...claiming Captain Chokes..ahem..I mean Lebron is better is a flat out joke. He couldn't even get out of the second round in the EAST and you're saying he can lead a team to a championship better than Kobe? Are you nuts? Who was the one bricking all the final shots for the Cavs when they needed him most. That would be Lebron. Who was the one missing free throws in the final seconds...that would be Lebron. I don't see Kobe missing shots when the team is counting on him. He takes over games and wins. Rewind the TIVO Lebron fans...he's a choker. A nice guy...and I genuinely like him as a player in the NBA...but he's not better than Kobe. Kobe is the best all around player in the NBA right now. Period.

I'll meet you guys back here when it's all over. I've already said it before in this thread...and I'll say it again...

Lakers vs. Celtics in the Finals. Lakers in 5.

How many rings is that now for Kobe?? And Shaq is no where in sight!

The exact reason why I can't stand Laker fans and wanted nothing more for them to lose.... :(

This is the stuff we all can look forward to for the next year :(

Way to go Laker fan. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

BTW Laker fan, Shaq is like a gazillion years older than Kobe at this point. Of course hes nowhere in sight. His career is at its end... And he still has one more ring than Mr. "Colorado".

This caveat for the thread only, and is not meant to be directed to anyone in particular:

Never argue with someone who doesn't fully understand Bball. It just gets ugly;)

I was also very happy to see this. I was trying to explain to my wife how he is the logo, and she was like, how do you know? That could be anybody! :rolleye1: I'm still not sure if Kobe has "matured" since the trade talk, talking about how his teammates are like brothers or if it is all for show. I'm hoping its the first one!

Jim,

Agree about Laker fans. They are quite a bunch. Think there is a fine line between having passion for your team and just being a rude loud mouth. This is not aimed at anyone in particular

It was a bit flamey I'll admit. But I just couldn't sit back and read page after page of Kobe bashing and Lebron James love.

I have been accused of being a trash talker and a loud mouth before...I probably am. And even I find people like me annoying win their teams are winning. But I am going to stick up for my team and their star player even when it's popular in this town to hate on them.

Don't worry...I'm from San Diego and am a Padres fan too. Um...we're in last place right now. So I can take it too...

Sorry if I offended anyone...

(in a whisper...Lakers in 5!)

KDB,

You can make all the arguments in the world about who's got what players around them or whatever...it doesn't matter. We all know that no one player is going to win a championship on their own. Mike couldn't even do it.

I mean look at Tim Duncan. The man had a triple double last night and still lost. (BTW, all you MVP nuts...that shows you right there that the MVP argument for him isn't as strong as you think. He needs Ginobli and the players around him just like everybody else.) Look at KG (Whom I love!) when he was in Minnesota, he couldn't get anywhere when all the other pieces left. Look at AI when he was in Philly...talk about a one man show! If anybody can make an argument for MVP this year Chris Paul can! Talk about one person turning a team around. They were absolutely awful before he showed up. Point is, EVERYBODY needs good players around them to win. That doesn't mean you are less of a player.

I'm talking as individual players. Kobe can literally put a team on his back when it counts (the 3rd and 4th quarter of game 4 in the semi-finals) and carry them on to win. When Lebron tried to do the same this year he couldn't do it. It's that simple. Do I think Lebron will get to that point someday...probably. He's a very gifted player. But comparing Kobe Bryant at this point in his career to Lebron in this point in his career...Kobe is a better all around player.

Cute kid BTW...I'm expecting my first soon!

he could not do it bc with kobe you CANT triple team him like lbj was getting tripled team. you cant bc kobe has other weapons that can kill you ie gasol, odom among others lbj doesnt have this there is a difference james would be able to do the same thing if he was in kobes spot so ur argument about kb being a better player in that aspect makes no sense. kobe has help so you cant triple him lbj doesnt so you CAN triple him

I have a question for all of you out there. I've been hearing talk that with all of the "young guns" in the West (LA, NO and Utah ect) that the Spurs are done as a dynasty. Do any of you believe this?

I'll start. I think this is ridiculous! The Spurs are a great team both on and off the court. They are the definition of the word Champion. The have so much class and respect for the game. Not to mention, they have already won four Championships. Their front office does a great job of putting talent around their core players. I'm not saying they wil win 4 out of the next 8, but I can see them winning aother one.

i agree i dont think they are done yet i think they are one more quality role player away from another ship i think they need to replace finley and make manu a starter in order to win another thou

The Spurs are far from done, but they need to do a lot of tinkering. In order to produce, they're bench can really only play every other game, because of age. Sorry...this is probably my 3rd time mentioning it, but they blew it when they got rid of Scola and Elson.

i agree with u unarce they are getting up there in age, as you can see bc 3 games they blow 15 or more point leads! thats just not the old spurs right there.

Where was Kobe these 2 seasons?

Season W L %
2005-06 45 37 .549
2004-05 34 48 .415

If he could do it all and take over a game on his OWN in the 4th why so crappy these 2 seasons? let me think, he had no team around him.

They overreacted to the Gasol and Shaq trade by acquiring Kurt Thomas. They didn't need him to beat the Suns.

The Gasol trade really forced the Spurs and Suns to make stupid moves. The Suns window shut as soon as Marion left. Who are we kidding, the Suns were 10x better off keeping Marion then Stoudemire. Sure, he has nicely padded ppg stat, but Marion was the reason they're offense could open up for their style of play. Plus, he's the only one that can lock down.

Can you imagine if Phoenix had enough sense to offer Stoudemire and Barbosa to the Clips for Brand and Maggette? You don't lose anything offensively, and you gain more defense, rebounding, and toughness.

Idiots!

I personally wouldnt do that trade, the salaries dont match up and im sorry to say but amare may be the best TRUE PF in the game. His size and athleticism is unquestionable. I would never trade him for brand, even if it was brand and maggette.

I agree great players CANNOT win alone. I think the only star recently to actually take his team to the finals is the year iverson basically decided he would no tlet the 76ers lose and made it to the championships.

However* ( im a large lakers fan but a larger NBA player overall), I believe the winning percentages for Kobe after the shaq trade is not fair. The west is too good for him to do it all alone. Can you name the players in the shaq trade? I can, but they do not replace the games most dominant center of the modern era, even in his waining years. Odom, Butler, and Grant is not a replacement for the big cactus (LOL). That was a YOUNG team with no experience. (and dont argue about how butler has developed, hes amazing talent, but he was still very young).

I think everyone needs a sidekick. Now imagine Bron Bron without the ball and able to move around and drive instead of this:

Bron Bron gets ball.
Bron Bron dribbles around causing havoc.

Finally with the lack of anyone trying to make plays he drives or takes an ill advised outside shot.

Now put him on a team with a REAL PG able to move without the ball. I dont even want to think what he could do with that. He doesnt need steve nash or michael redd, he just needs a jason kapono and luke ridnour ( or any combo of the 2, nothing fancy but needed pieces)

edit: Kobe was hurt the 04-05 season and played in 60 games or something like that right?

and look at this stat line, if your team cant win with this (and that month he averaged 40 points wasnt it?) then no one can.

2005-06 LAL 80 41:00 Fg:45.0 3pt %:34.8 FT%:85.0 APG:5.3 RPG4.5 SPG:1.8 0.4 PPG:35.4
