OT, need a new primary care doctor in orlando

I would actually prefer east orlando, but I work in downtown so anywhere in between. I am on united healthcare, but most take that. I have had a doctor for a long time that I really like, but I cannot seem to get the people at the front desk/automated appointment service to return my calls...and have been trying for almost 2 months.

Hmmm...Dr. Rocker in Orlando is fantastic...been going there for years. Not sure if that's too far from you. He's very down to earth and spends as much time with you as you need.

Can't help, sorry. I used to go to the UCF health center. Now I don't have insurance that covers doctors visits and don't go to school so cannot go see a doctor(even to fill out a perscription).

Along the same topic lines, does anyone personally know a doctor that wouldn't charge me $80 to get a perscription signed? I have ADD(like you guys didn't already know) and being without my meds has really decreased my performance in life's tasks. It costs me $15 to refill my script, but $80 to be able to fill it?!?!

I have a friend who used to go to UCF and after he graduated he moved to Ohio but he has ADD that he ended up readdressing in college. I will see if I can contact him and see where he went while he was still in Orlando maybe it can help.

the UCF health center is the biggest .. I can't say it on these boards but they've built a newer and bigger one, not sure if that means better. Have you tried contacting your old doctor there anyhow to see if maybe they can do it as a favor? Time to find a local doc on these boards that likes to reef too maybe ;p

Nah, he can't help. Because it was an amphetamine, he needed a second signature to prescribe it. I've always liked the UCF health center. They've done a lot of free work on me because I was a student(well, not free, but...)

Unless the doctor is your friend, he's not going to willingly give up his $80 for all five minutes of an appointment. Maybe we should start a "Frags for Drugs" program, but not in that way.

You know how annoying it is to know exactly what's wrong, know exactly what you need to help it, being regularly prescribed it, and then having someone tell you, oh no problem, you can keep getting it, but now you need to pay me $100 to do so. I wouldn't have this problem in Mexico...Only in America: Land of the Free (unless you are sick and need help and only as long as you stay within their guidelines and laws that have been predetermined for you). But I digress, if anyone can help me with this situation or has a better solution, please do not hesitate to PM me.

I've thought about the free clinic, but it is downtown, only open during hours when I am working, and I think I may just be over poverty level, so I'm not sure I could use it anyway. Besides, it would be a whole day of waiting, which would ultimately end up costing me more than taking an hour out of a day and paying a doctor.

I hear you. when we got sick a few weeks ago I went to the Dr because I had a head cold for like 2 weeks. Normally i know okay its a cold it'll go away but it was taking its time.

We have a new insurance because of a change at kevins company and now we're paying out of pocket up to a certain $ and it was like $120 for a visit and $45 for drugs which incidentally my cold went away like 2 days after.. then kevin got sick. made him take the antibiotics since he showed since of bacterial infection

I can recommend *not* seeing Dr. Law over sorta near ucf. well law himself is okay but the 2 hour wait when you have an apppointment sucks.

i actually went there to speak to someone about a concentration issue i have - I am thinking its more along the lines of anxiety but damnit im an engineer not a doctor! I wanted to explore with the doctor i got stuck with (some old tart) the possibility of something like ADD or the several other things that make you feel "off" and why i cannot for the life of me keep numbers in the order they are in.

When you experience something like dislexia with numbers and you are an engineer its a very very bad thing! I can never call people because i mess up their phone number..

I explain to this old guy how i feel and that i am having trouble with school and the harder i try to concentrate on my work the worse it gets- he grabs my middle and tells me to loose weight.

I was like .. omgwtf I can tell you I need to loose weight I don't need to pay you to tell me that .. You need a fountain of youth, that'll be $100. I was so ticked.

Heh, Law is the guy I was going to go to, then realized I had no doc visits on my insurance. I called asking a question that would ultimately determine if I was going to him(the question being can I get multiple months of perscription with one visit) and never heard a response. I called back, got a message for the nurse's department...left a message and received(again) no response. That's when I knew he had no concern for his "patients" and cancelled my appointment.

That's kind of funny, because I could lose a LOT of weight, but that does not determine if I have ADD or not. That is determined by the chemical imbalance in my brain, not my belly.

Yeah, I had a six-pack once, but I decided to make it a kegger...more to go around!!

My friend got on some new ADD medication that came out I guess while he was in college and he dropped easily 20-30 lbs. He had gotten that cute college chub thing going on .. when before he was like a rock solid practicing black belt in tae kwon do.. I could probably punch him in the stomach and hurt my hand..

When he got on the meds it made him loose a lot .. guess it messes with hormones and chemistry .. but he found a balanced dose that helps him mentally and isn't sapping his physique anymore- it was weird seeing him scrawny.

Me? I just need to be more active. I used to be skinny-ish looking at 168 and buff from being captain of the women's weight lifting team in high school... Muscle turns back into fat if you just play computer games and reef! Well, not being stressed about graduating and stuff helps too I s'pose

At the same time I was doing tae kwon do and painting boat bottoms on the weekends - i'd have to swim in place under the boat while it was hung on davits. I miss those days!

It doesn't really bother me too much, we all have those "i feel yuck" days but there's a big history of diabetes in my family so its like.. obviously eat healthy and all that jazz ..

But yeah Dr. Laws office? blahhh. I think Dr. Mallonee is probably just as expensive if not more but you might want to check him out since it isn't too too far away

Dr Allen Singer is Excellent. He's in the Orlando Medical Center on Lake Underhill across from Fl. Hosp. Took me a couple doctors to find him, and now will never switch!
