Id rather spend for quality but I don't need industrial strength. Just for decks & walks.

What PSI?
Brand?

Thanks

I do this for a living, so I may be able to help.

Are you washing your own stuff or are you doing this commercially?

i have a nice little gas one ive never used. i got it from a friend, havnt started it up or anything so may take a bit of work to get it started. but its all yours for a frag or 2 or few small pieces of LR. that is if you wanna make the trip here to grab it.

Spyder, I've only got frags myself. Talk us still young. Would otherwise jump on it.

Ryan, just looking to do my decks, siding, and walk once or twice a year and that's about it. Big deck is wood. Walk is brick.

ahh ok.

well if you come up with something like some LR or some equipment (always looking for equipment to use as backups.) or maybe some cash (ill sell for like half of the price of a new one or less lol its just sitting here.)

Curious to hear the recommended pw for this type of work as well. Ive been in my house for 2.5 years and it could use a good scrub!

this is all you need Cully,we do the same stuff as you,we have a wood deck we use it on plus a few years and many lbs ago we really put it to use..

It's not really the PSI, it's the GPM. For decks and walks I would recommend a 4GPM machine. Something with about 11HP. One of my small machines is an 11HP, 4GPM at 3000 PSI. It's great for what you are looking for. Northern tool has great deals on these machines. The stuff you can buy at home depot and lowes are junk (trust me, I do this for a living!) With a 4GPM machine, you can add down stream chemicals to do a much better job of cleaning.....or you can just hire my company to come out and wash your deck, walks, house, gutters and roof if need be!...only kidding.... here is a PW I would highly recommend for your applications.

Washing a deck is a bit more complicated than it sounds, if you would like more info on how to do it, just PM me.

For concrete or paver walks, you will want to pre-wet it, then apply an algaecide / fungicide, then blast it! You can get Krud Kutter at Lowes, it works ok. I make a 20g mix with 40% sodium hypo chloride 60%water. Then I add 32 oz of soap (krud Kutter will work for you), and a scoop of Arm&Hammer laundry detergent (mixes with bleach (hypo cloride) without gassing off, for a surfactant. Apply with your soap nozzle (the black one) and let sit for about 10 minutes, then wash off with a 15 degree nozzle (the yellow one).

Just spraying it with water takes the green away, but doesn't kill the colony. Like I said, if you want any more info, just ask me. I do this stuff every day.

I sincerely appreciate the tip Ryan! That seems a bit strep for weekend warrior work. Any recs in the $200-300 range?

Well bud, just like in our hobby, you get you pay for. That machine will last forever for you. The 200-300 dollar machines crap out really quick, especially if you try to use it with chems. A machine from lowes or hd might last a few years, the one I posted will last 10-20 with light use and good maintenance.

I feel ya. Just didn't think it was gonna be that much. I promise you I won't buy a POS without getting your approval first. I'll be watching Craigslist, though this is sort of a high demand time of year. But what the heck, I need it.

You can find the type of machine I linked on CL for about 4-500. They hold their value pretty well. If you can wait about a month, I will be replacing my small machine with an 8gpm machine. Ill sell this one for 400. It was 1300 new. It also has electric start! Its a nice PW.

Is renting one an option? If you are only going to use it once a year, it may be worth it to rent one.

Most rental companies have 3.5 gpm machines for about $35 for half a day.

Exactly why I like to rent limited-use tools :)

Edit: I agree with you though Ryan about the Lowes/HD ones. They really suck

If I own one, I'm more apt to get the job done. If its a product that holds its value fairly well, I'd rather buy quality once verses buying POSs 2 or 3 times. The added step of renting has a higher likelihood for procrastination.

Hey mark I will look when I get home buy I have a small mitsubishi one have to see the model. My deck was really shot and it worked perfect use it to clean the house etc. I dont do it for a living or anything i just know it works for around the house. I know its not as good as the one the ryan recommended but then again he does it for a living so I am sure he knows alott better than I do. I think mine was like $300 and I have had it for about 5 years i have stripped the deck pain everything with it and it still starts first pull

Another thing to watch out for is the pump impeller. Most "residential" power washes have a plastic one with isn't very durable. Try to get a commercial grade pw with a stainless steel impeller. Also, if you are only using it for short periods of time, once a week, a cheaper one will last. But, if you plan on doing decks, driveways, houses, on a daily basis as if it was a business, get a good one. The psi rating is never what it actually is. A 2500 is usually around 2200. I'd suggest getting something above the 3500 psi range. My 2500 is ok washing bikes and quads but it takes forever on decks and stuff.

It's funny, I'm saving out of my aquarium "fun money" for a third vortech and that's gonna run me $3-400. I don't bat an eye. But then $400 for a pressure washer sounds exorbitant. We are warped!

Are there any other brand recs? Our deck isnt huge. Our siding needs it twice a year, our driveway needs it once a year and so does our front walk.

I'd rather own but waiting to find a quality used one could take months.

Ryan, what brand is yours?
