In Memoriam
hey everyone....

im getting ready to hit up a charter boat up and do some Deep Sea Fishing about a month from now... i KNOW there are alot of fishermen out there... this will be an open invitation trip...all are welcome...

I haven't been deep sea in about 7 years so im not too sure what most of the rates are these days... from what i remember, the boat pass was about $40... 1 day lisence was $7 and bait and tackle was FREE... but i cant remember if there were pole rentals IF you dont have your own gear... any info on current prices will be greatly appreciated... looking at going Spit Fire out of San Pedro SATURDAY, October 21st... My scheduel is flexable, if you are interested... what would be YOUR best day to go... would be nice to get a bunch of ppl to go.

please RSVP with any extra info you may have or need about the trip...

hope to see you there,
Cris

thx much Mach6... which was the San Pedro boat....(?) we caught HUGE Sea Bass off the San Pedro boat... would like to give that a try again... thx for the info... i will review it now...

You are talking a half day boat? That's not really "deep sea fishing" imo. More like off shore bass fishing. Still fun to get out there though. If you want to plan a trip out of SD and go overnight where we can catch some tuna, do-do's, ono, etc, let me know I'm in on that one for sure.

apparently prices have changed, but lucky for ME...not by much ;) im still researching the San Pedro boat...

aww...beefjerkygood you got it... the 3/4 day trip... i just found those sites as well... $2500 is SLIGHTLY too rich for my blood ;)

have you been on any of the SP boats... which would you prefer... im trying to call my uncle and find out which we went on... waiting for a call back...

A 3/4 day on the sea horse is $48, good chance you'll find the yellows....

But they are catching yellowfin tuna and dorado too in US waters, a little bit south of the 43 spot which is 30 miles west of san diego... The tuna are spread out from the 43 spot to south of san clemente island..

The overnight trips are getting fish... 125-175

thx for your input ®eefer

looking for the best spot with best catchs in town... please feel free to post opinions on trips... lets get as many ppl in on this as we can...opinions...Opinions...OPINIONS!

Yellowtail just went off in the rocky point last weekend. i agree that SD overnighter is the way to go for tuna, too much hit or miss around the local spots. My buddy works on the Pursuit, I can ask him for a price on charter. Some landings are doing rockcod already so you know what that means.

But i'm in for a day of farting around locally
Kenny

sounds good Kenny.... Tuna is always fun... the biggest ive done personally is Mahi Mahi down in mexico before, thats fun... we will prolly go with what ever the majority wants... or maybe we can set up 2 trips... same day... i can be in charge of local scedueling and maybe ®eefer can set up the SD trip at the same time ... thats always an option... maybe even have a friendly little compition with a small handicap involved for the local trip since we are catching vs. Tuna on the SD trip :D winning team will win a pot luck of frags... :smokin:

You guys are better off doing a trip out of Ensenada, Im going this weekend with some guys from work and its only $1000 for 8 guys for a offshore tuna trip on a nice sportfisher, not a cattle boat. If you want more info about the boat and landing you can email me at nsmith@shimano.com and Ill foward the link to you.
Happy Fishing

Prices have basically doubled in the past 5 years primarilly due to fuel costs.

3/4 trips are about $50-$65.
Overnight trips 9pm-7pm are about $100-120. Includes bunk.

Bait included (anchovies, sardines and squid when avail).
Food and beer/sodas are extra.
Fish cleaning extra.

Licenses required (and checked by boat) and pole rentals are availble for around $8.00.

I generally only go on the overnight trips because they will go to an island (San Clemente, Catalina, Santa Barbara) in search for Yellowtail and White Sea Bass.

Try to avoid the heavy crowds on Friday-Saturday which can be 60 people or more per boat, stick to during the week if possible.

If you are interested in going a Sunday night fish Monday, or leave Monday night, fishing Tuesday I might join you.

Check out sportfishing.com for the up to date reports and where the best fishing is at any time.

Also, don't go on weekends. IF the fish have been biting, there's usually so much boat traffic & pressure on the fish, that they stop eating for a few days.................

Best bet is to do an overnighter out of San Diego at one of the big 3 landings (Fishermans Landing, Point Loma, or H&M). If tuna are being caught within 60-70 miles, the overnight guys will run for them.

The Legend out of Seaforth (Mission Bay) is a great boat too............made for overnight to 3 days trips, Cpt Shawn is fast becoming one the most consistent fishcatchers in So Cal............

My buddy runs 976tuna.com , so once you get a headcount & a date, let me know & I'll see what I can do.....
