The OG mad scientist
I have a laptop thats about 3- 4 years old and have lost the administartor password and so forth, plan to give it to my kids to play but can't get it even booting it from an ISO burned bootable disk.

Also can't use the dell re-install disk since it just does not happen.Meaning trying to reinstall XP from scratch.

So please give me options.
Should i use one of those geek squad/best buy services ( taking the laptop there and have them clean install the OS) and if any of you have used this service how much i should expext to pay? Don't really want to spend much if so i'd rather buy a new PC.

Anyone around that's willing to install the OS and drivers for the unit for some frags in exchange?

Thx I'm in Plantation and really don't have time to deal with this THX

Changes the bios to boot order and no go/tried ophcrack and no go.
Simply don't wanna deal with this.
Mrx I'll send u my email to try to boot from USB although been down that road before wo success.

Nope/ can't boot from cd since it always ask for password.
At one point in time I gave this laptop to my brother in law to use in his office and since then secondary tonit having the local or office network password it's a no go.

Anyways anybody close to plantation that can deal with this?????
Need to have a price range to decide va buying a new pc.

You should be able to boot from CD without the windows password, unless the password is a bios password. If it's a bios password, someone has to take the computer apart and reset the jumpers (do they do this on laptops?). If it's just a windows password, a boot CD should start before windows does, and there shouldn't be any trouble running the boot CD. USB may not work, depending on the specific vendor/age of the bios.

I'd gladly offer to help for frags, but I'm at school, and don't have a tank lol. Good luck though! I'm sure there are MANY people in the club who would be willing to stop by and fix it for you though.

it a dell? If you have the OS installed from then the admin user/pass is Administrtor/Administrator. That is the default set from the factory

Should have gotten a mac..... ya right.......How did we know this was coming from the mac clan........ Its just as easy on a mac, and some would say even easier since the manufacture even provides you with the tool to do it. With out getting in to the silly we are better and need to say it bs because we only hold 2% of the market share....I think the statement here should be when is everyone going to learn nothing is perfect and as we can see here even the two main OS systems used in todays computer world are easily circumvented with a little knowledge.

Manny yes I can reset your bios password or windows user act passwords or your mac passwords. Manny I will email you the file tonight for what you need, its on a usb drive at home. If its your bios you will need to open it up and like above said reset the jumpers.

For those of you that need assistance with circumventing a mac admin act follow the instructions below....

1. Put in any OS 10 cd
2. Hold down C key and boot from cd
3. When the machine boots up from the cd choose utilities at the top
4. When the drop down tab opens up choose RESET PASSWORD
5. When the RESET PASSWORD utility opens up chose the Mac OS X disk which contains a password to reset
6. In the first drop down menu select a user of this volume to reset their password
7. In the appropriate box put in the new password for this user you are reseting
8. In the appropriate box reenter the new password for this user
9. In the appropriate box enter a new password hint for this user (optional)
10.Select SAVE and reboot the machine
11. Optional while you are in the PASSWORD RESET utility you can also choose to Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs which resets file permissions and Access Control List (ACLs) of this user's home directory to their default settings (which you just reset in the procedure above)
