Anyone else enjoy going for peacocks? I have not gone in a while but I was walking my dog around local lake and saw a bunch and just made me think of asking. If so got any pics of your nice catch.

here is one of mine, 6.5 lbs caught in local canal on kendall drive.

what where you using shiners?

i've caught a bunch of 5 pounders never seen anything that big though its a beast!

I saw a bunch that look they are fanning nests today your average sized fish. In the hammocks there are a bunch of lakes connected that have peacocks and large mouths. some decent sized fish.

Actually I caught 2 of them in the same canal... one was slightly smaller, about 10 lbs.

The 12 pounder was caught on shiners, the 10 pounder on a DOA

Holy crap, lou, nice fish!

How's this?

Can't find any of my peacock bass pics, but I generally get 2-3 lbers out of my backyard... and occasionally a 5-6 lber.

nice fish, i don't know much about saltwater fishing. what kinda fish is that? pompano or permit? I haven't lived down here that long and definately used to go more when i lived in broward, i used to love the dania beach pier. from what i have heard they closed it down.

african pompano, 26 1/2 lbs... ate for a week! Extremely tasty fish!
Only caught 2 others, both at the same time

Was drifting in 120 feet of water with 3 rods out... 2 in the upper water column, 1 on the bottom. Got hit hard on the bottom, with the big rod... started retrieving, then one of the lighter rods gets hit. I sit on the rod butt of the one that was on the bottom, fight in the light rod, it's an african! Nice size, too! Reel up the one from the bottom, another african! Same exact size! Problem is, they were both 1/2" from being legal. Funny thing is, the one in the pic had only 1/2" to go to be illegal again! There's a slot limit on those fish. You can catch em too small, and you can catch em too big!

that first peacock looks to be in 4# range, this is a 6 pounder that was weighed on a certified scale

That 12# fish that Lou caught is a beast but should of been released...

Released the 10 pounder but kept the 12 as it was an IGFA world record contender at the time. Matter of fact, that 12 pounder was the first and only freshwater fish i've ever kept.

peacock

Unbelievable as it may seem, I missed the record by a few ounces.... :mad2:

It did become the largest butterfly peacock caught in Florida -my fishing license had just expired when I caught it so I couldn't post it as a state record... second bummer (I've never let my license expire since then)

It is also the largest butterfly peacock mount ever made. The mold is available through King Sailfish mounts and it has become the trophy peacock 25" standard.
