yep i just got one of the so called "courtesy ticket" informing me that i had ran a red light that i did not recall nor even seeing the radar sign. Normalling i would not complain tomuch because we all break traffic laws time to time. but this thing is close to 400.00 and i have not had a ticket in years. Is there a way to get out of these things. looking for all possible suggestions. i just dont believe the cost of this and then to add the traffic school fees on top of this to keep my record clean. wow

thanks for you help in advance

I hear that since there wasn't an officer to sign the ticket, it is not enforceable? Good luck LUK of outcome.

Good luck going into court with that excuse. Richard just go to traffic school. The courts are not too lenient with red light tickets. The common rule is that speeding does not often kill people. Running red lights often kill people. Many people got away with those tickes in the past because the equipment vendors had a vested interest in the # of citations issued, but I think all of those type contracts have been re-written. You may be able to argue equipment failure but you better bring proof. There may be some other way but I have not yet seen it. Maybe the secret was in the pm that reefkt sent you.

Let us know what happens. I think they are the biggest bunch of bs. The one by my house makes me drive like an idiot, if the light has been green for too long when I approach it I'll slow down from the speed limit of 45 to 25 so if it changes to yellow I'll have plenty of time to stop. 8 out of 10 times the light doesnt change so I have to speed back up and I have plenty of angry people behind me wondering why some guy is driving 25 in a 45.

Read this before you send anything in:

http://www.highwayrobbery.net/

That website saved me from a ticket. If they can't positively identify you, they send you what looks like a ticket but is actually a declaration of guilt. If you sign it, then you admit to guilt. I ignored it and they couldn't do anything about it. This was about 3 years ago. I hate those stupid cameras. It's purpose is more to make money than save lives. Please be careful though. I nearly got killed because someone ran a red light.

I think the first step would be to get a copy of the photos that were taken. THEN determine whether or not you actually ran the red - or it if such a thing appears on the photos.

I think the owner of the car is liable if you can't ID the driver. But from all the pictures I've seen the drivers face is dang clear and they provide you a picture of your car beind the line while the light is red and a picture of you passing it. If you ran the red pay the ticket and be happy you didnt kill yourself while doing it.

I remember see on the news that the only person ever successfully fight one of these is because the picture shows both yellow and red lights on. But this was awile back and laws have changed since.

Again, request a copy of the photos to confirm either way ... once you get the photos, THEN you can decide what you want to do. You may THINK you ran the red, but maybe it was still yellow. Technology isn't perfect ... they make mistakes too :) My $0.02

You guys assume too much. That website I linked to have all the info. It tells you how to tell a fake ticket and a real one and what your options are. I was sent clear photos of my face along with a photo of my license plate. I think because I was wearing sunglasses, they can't positively identify me so they sent what looks like a ticket but is actually a form that you "can" sign for admission of guilt.

Dude, if you ran the red, then pay the penalty. Lucky you didn't kill someone. Why fight it if you're guilty of it! - that's just not taking responsibilities for your action.

If you want to pay with your time, then do traffic school.

I had to show up in court to fix a delayed fix-it ticket. When I was there, there were roughly 23 people out of the 45 people that had the 9 o'clock schedule time who were fighting these red light tickets. I didn't see one of them win. I think it's a waste of time and energy to fight it. I have never heard of someone getting out of these. Good luck.

I was just in traffic school and this was a highly debated with the instructor. Basically the long and short of it was, look to see whether or not the light is yellow before entering the intersection, if it is yellow before you entered the intersection and red while you are in it, the ticket is invalid and can be faught. The traffic code states that as long as the light is still yellow upon entering the intersection then you are ok, only if it is red before entering the intersection are you violating the traffic law.

On that, they have to give you at least 1 second of yellow for every 10 mph of speed limmit. i.e. If the speed limmit was 40 mph, the yellow has to be at least 4 seconds long, etc. If you can go to the intersection and time the yellow and it ends up being shorter than its supposed to be, theres a very good chance that you can get out of the ticket.

I am no cop or lawyer, but I was in traffic school last weekend and this was highly stressed upon us because so many people were arguing about it. Hope this helps.

I got one of these last year for a car I sold in 1996 that I forgot to transfer the liability. Luckily the pic was of an old guy. I went to the cop shop to explain, they were pretty cool about it. Their pics are pretty good, if it wasnt you driving than they will be able to tell, but if you dont tell them who it is and you should always know who borrowerd your car then they can hit you with aiding and abetting...not too sure how that would fly in court.

should we start going through those intersections with camera covering our faces just in case it turns red? :) I always wonder about that.

Where I live, we got one every other intersection. Maybe I should were some kind of a mask when I drive. :)

Try this one...

Anybody ever tried the spray on stuff for the plate? Wouldn't do me any good since the front of my trailer would just give them my phone number.

Just tell the judge you were drunk and didn't see the light Richard. Works every time !

Better start breaking off some frags for the SCMAS meet. Anyone want to buy a Green A. Milli for $400.00 !

All I can say is do the ONLINE TRAFFIC SCHOOL, it is about 1/3 the time and so much less painful then actually going to a class and sitting for 8 hours.
