i am in the market for a new TV and would like to know which of these two is good to have? and also what are the advantages and disadvantages if you get one or the other? and lastly where to get it at a greatly unbelievable price? thinking of getting at least a 50 inch and a 1080p

I have 1080p LCD, Samsung. Great TV. Only complaint is that the 'blacks' aren't totally black, more faded / dark grey. As I am to understand, plasmas render blacker blacks. Regardless, I think it's an outstanding TV w/ great picture.

If you plan to play video games on it at all, go with LCD.... I think plasmas look really good, but have heard of a few people that have burned images on them.

I have a 50" LCD projection and a 32" LCD in my bedroom and think theyre both great TV's, and dont think you could go wrong with either...

I love my 50" Pioneer Plasma. I read way too many reviews, then looked at as many as possible. Plasma won hands down for picture quality, especially the Pioneer. No 1080P, but no regrets at all.

thanks for mentioning the video game. i forgot about my PS3 which will be used as a blueRay player and my son would be playing games on it too.

did plasma ever get their reliability issues worked out? I remember hearing that plasmas weren't lasting very long...

LCD's have been out a long time compared to plasmas so that is something to consider

LCD for sure, especially if you want 1080p. Most big screen plasmas still only go to 720p, and 1080p plasmas are no where near a perfected electronic yet.

If 1080p is the number you want (and it should be) then LCD is the way to go.

The benefit of Plasma is that it is usually cheaper then LCD, and (god for bid) anything would go wrong with the TV, Plasma is an easier TV to fix then LCD (but that may be becaue there are usually more quality problems with Plasma historically then with LCD), but LCD's quality is far superior, IMO.

I have my PS3 on my 32" LCD in my bedroom and couldnt be happier... the picture is insane... You're more than welcome to come check it out anytime you want...

PS3 on 1080p is nuts. My bro in law brings his over to play or watch movies on my TV.

I had a 50" samsung 1080p dlp, its a great tv but the top-down viewing angle on most dlp's sucks... picture quality was very nice though... another downside is you will eventually have to change the bulb that sells for about $140-200. I just sold it to get an lcd tv; better reliability, no burn in, more energy efficient than plasmas, and you can get em in 1080p easily which is very nice if you like blue-ray, hd-dvd, or any 1080p supported gaming systems.

Top down view on my LCD projection is bad too...but then I think about how much I watch my TV that way....NEVER, the only time I notice it is if I'm walking by it. For the price, I don't think you can beat the LCD projection or DLPs.

I have to second thins.

Are you doing a wall mount or will it sit on a stand?

I bought a Pioneer Plasma and absolutely loved it. When we remodeled the basement, I bought the Sony XBR3 LCD because of the 1080p spec. It sucks compared to the plasma. LCD's tend to show way more color blocks and don't seem to have the color range that the plasma's do.

There's still alot of myths about plasmas. The first couple of generations had problems with burn-in and they lost their brightness over time.

I think they're on the 6th or 7th generation of panels now and the new ones have addressed those issues. Works great for games!

Also for purchasing and pricing, you guys have an awsome store their in the Chicago area that has unbeatable prices. I don't know if I can say the actaul name or not, but its a three letter abbreviation and it rythmes with ABC. Awsome prices and service.

I have both-- they both have great pictures. If using for other than watching TV go with LCD. More glare but using for gaming or computer it is the way to go. I have the 52" Sharp Aquos which I bought for $2900 2 months ago, now costco has $500 off coupon making it like $2200. Great deal. I think LCD will dominate the market forward now that they can make them big enough to compete with plasma's. You will want to get a high def cable box to enjoy the few programs in High def.

Im guessing you are talking about Abt Electronics on Milwaukee ave. They also have quite a nice tank as well hehe.

I have both... downside of a plasma is it WILL degrade over time/use. This will happen very gradually and evenly over a period of several years. Unless of course you watch QVC 24/7... you will get a "burn in" of the graphics which will be visible on other channels. LCD will live many more hours than a plasma. LCDs, depending on the processor do not do as well with fast moving cameras, such as a camera panning across the field on a kick. you may see what looks like a blur... or blocking of pixels. Do your research and make sure they have all the correct connections for your perripherals... My father in law bought an LCD and didnt know about component, HDMI, or composite cabling.

I had this exact experience when purchasing last year. I spent a few months reading and looking at sets before buying. Everyone in the family loves the Pioneer plasma I bought. It's a fantastic set.

There are a lot of really great deals online too. Spend some time in the avs forums and look at their sponsors. I doubt you can beat the deals you can get there unless you go with some 'shadier' place that doesn't offer warranties or something like that.
