OT/ Price of AC to Swamp cooler

Well we are tired of the July- August 85's, has anybody switched recently and compared electric. costs. Is it worth keeping the dual system Swamp/AC or are they efficent enough to get rid of the swamp? Thanks, John
 
I kept both. I use swamp until about june and turn to AC then switch back to swamp about the middle of sep. In my case it saves about 100 bucks a month in electric.
 
That's what everyone's been telling me. We just bought a house with swamp, no A/C. My first thought was to swap out the cooler, but I was told from an efficiency standpoint, and for resale value, we should keep the swamp.
 
My last house was dual AC/Swamp and I like the AC only better on my new house. I got tired of the up keep on the swamp personally.
 
2 down 1 to go, both were nice not pushy and said they didn't care one way or another about leaving swamp. They both said it would not hurt and was a nice back up if needed but we would probably never use again after useing the AC. The refridgerant difference and future phaseing out is interesting. The Gov. has decieded a higher pressureed Refrige. is better then the lower pressure R-22. And the XL19 is not made in the newer Refridge. Could it be the 2 different compress(low volume does not like high pressure). Sounds like the gov. is cutting nose to spite face again. I'm learning a lot, poor sales people have to put up with my(Trades) and Liz's(Phyisics/Engineering) questions, They did good so far.
 
FYI, R-22 will still be manufactured until 2020. And suppliers will still be able to sell it until they run out of stock, which we think won't be for a long time after that. So don't let anyone talk you into a 410 unit unless it's actually a better deal!
 
Thanks, thats kinda what I supposed, higher pressure scares me, more likely to leak or break. Sounds like the XL16 Roof mount in R-22 is gonna do it. Liz is all excited and I'm scared (Electric Bill) but life is good
 
Thanks everyone, it was a scarey decision, but from all the feedback it looks like I got the right one. See if my chillers stay off now next month. Thanks again, John
 
I am having a second AC unit installed at the shop, Current AC is failing to keep up on the load. AC bill is running over 1000 for 1200 sqft. I wish the building had dual stage units to kep the humidity down. My house is 2300 sqft and only runs 130 with the tank so an AC in the home is not that bad. Guess business property is not insulated as well as it should be.
 
Wow, Tim just put that one in new last year cause the other one was under sized. Big thing with your place is doors opening and the humidity
 
yeah I burned out the fan on then "new" AC unit last week. I am remodelling in a few weeks and the systems will all be chilled so I can seal up the systems to prevent some of the humidity. Going from Tims 8 system design to just 3-4 systems so chillers will be a little more cost effective.
