I am looking to get a Pomeranian Yorki mix or something close to it for my girlfriend. If anyone can lead me in the right direction or know anyone who has puppies let me know. Im sure more then one of you have had to go through this process so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

kijiji.com, my GF has been looking there... just make sure you know what you are buying cause it is kinda like craigslist... good luck, i am looking for a teacup yorki!... let me know if you find one!

check craigslist or the pound. petfinder.com is a great site to look for dogs. there are thousands of homeless dogs out there who need homes so i would at least give rescuing a shot before you jump to buying a puppy, not saying that you are. i have a purebred shih tzu that i rescued at a 1 year old and he was completely trained, all shots were done, microchipped, and neutered. and i only paid $300 and i know countless other people that have rescued dogs and you wouldn't believe how happy they are. if a puppy is want you want for sure, definitely check craigslist because there are lots of people who buy puppies and then realize they can't take care of them and now they need new homes. feel free to ask me any questions you may have, i worked at a pet store for three years and have a lot of knowledge i can share :)

yea, i have been waiting to save a small dog, as i live in a small place and that is all i can handle as my gf will just take care of the fun stuff... : )

I don't know about buying life animal as a gift. If you live together with your gf then you guy should talk about getting the dog first coz it like 10+ years commitment of something. And they will be a lot more bill to come. If you not live together then I personally not recomment buying a puppy for a gift. I read from some where that more than 30-40% of homeless dog start as a puppy gift for some girl birthday and then when they break up the puppy become homeless.
That just my 2 cent.

If you you want a puppy then I recomment to get the health insurance for your puppy such as Banfil Hospital (petsmart). That will be the best investment on your puppy ever.

if that was ment for me, sorry... i am actually newly engaged... i guess i will don't have the habit down to call her my fiance? anyways, i am definately in a commited relationship and i have had dogs before, that is why i am waiting for something perfect for what i can care for... NO RETURNS HERE!

but good advice for sure!

what every you do please to not waste your $$$ buying one from someone that intentionally mixes breeds to make $$$$ ......

I see a lot of people buying these designer breeds for $400-2k when you could have gotten the same thing from the pound for 35 bucks !

Here are websites in where you can see local animal shelter dogs. finding a puppy pom mix or yorki will be hard at the shelters. You will find more chihuahua mixes etc.. Or older poms /yorkis abandon by owners they may look nasty too because of the coat might be matted and dirty, but look passed that once they a groom they are SUPER cute !

^^^ I noticed that downey gets a lot of cute dogs and baldwin park, and carson.

Here is the city animal shelters

^^^ the north center has a older pom there not sure if its still there.
you can look online and see dogs but its best to go in person because people dump their dogs daily ... :(

I am one of those people who will pay 5-600 for a so called designer breed because they are cute and i am of the belief that mixing poodles and Pomeranians and jack russels and Pomeranians will give you the best of both worlds. Soft coat of the Pomeranian and the intelligence of a poodle or jack Russell. Also cross breed to cancel out bad jeans which could cause disease and illness when you inbreed.

I am leaning toward a pomapoo or jackaranian. I would love to adopt or save one of these for free if i could find one. Otherwise i might just have to fork up the cash...

If anyone has any info on either of these dogs please pm me.

Thanks

I hope you know ^^^^ thats a BIG myth if you breed two dogs with an illness the pups will get this .... and those designer breeders do not health test at all your chances of getting a sick puppy is higher.

breeding a german shepherd that has hip dysplasia with a rottweiler that has dysplasia , the pupies will most likely get dysplasia

Genes do not magically disappear ..........

inbreeding is not bad at all... please do some research on this, why people believe this is because they get petshop dogs or dogs from BYB and when the purebred dog is sick they blame the breed.... Its the breeders fault not the breed. EVERY reputable purebred breeder I have known and talked with back up what they are breeding. they health test and give you a guarantee on the dogs health. those designer BYB will not do this if one says they will give you a year on health that is not good enough. dogs do not mature for 2-3 yrs and MOST genetic diseases do not appear until that time .....

I have been breeding cats for over 7 years and if genetics where that easy every breeder would have healthy animals ......

a great example of this cross breeding = good genes is A pixie bob . Some smart breeder thought it would be cool to get bigger cats so she bred in Maine coon ( probably thought genes would make healthier cats  ) . Many Maine coons Have HCM most breeders did not know what was causing a perfectly healthy cat just dropping dead at the age of 3yrs ...... This pixie bob breeders bred Maine coons into their breeding program and guess what we know have Pixie Bobs with HCM ... so much for the genes canceling out right?

Or the worst of both worlds... Please do some reading on genetics before believing a breeder that is making these types of crosses.

And, anyone making these crosses is doing it for the money. Period. Anyone doing for the money is doing it wrong.

+1 on petfinder.org

another one is ashleyandhobie.com , which is a message board type deal for dogs up for adoption ... most of them are big ones, but if you contact the person in charge, I think her name is Annie, i'm sure she'll help you out.

Here's my advice, don't get a Pomeranian. My roommate's Pom was the devil lol.

In all seriousness, I adopted my Boxer. I couldn't be happier.

I'm using a percentage basis when choosing a dog. Forget the fact that I want a small little cuddly dog to keep my dramatic g/f calm and happy.

I was not saying all mutts are going to be healthier you cant generalize when talking about jeans. The chances of a certain jean reproducing is less when you have 2 of the same species but completely different breed. Just like if an Oriental person and a Caucasian had a kid the risk of them sharing the same bad jeans is less. They may still each have bad jeans but the percentage of bad jeans being crossed out is greater because the chances of them shareing the same bad jean is less. I hope that makes sense.

When someone does something to make money most of the time the highest priced THING will be of the highest quality. It seems like these designer dogs are the most expensive thus making them highest quality. These are just my opinions and not the views of all Republicans.

I would not get a Pomeranian they look devilish. But a jackeranian I think would be perfect for me and her.

just because a dog is priced high does not make it high quality i'm sorry to say. like i said i work in a pet store, and we sell puppies. and most the time we don't know what kind of breeders they're coming from because the puppies are shipped to us, which means they're probably coming from puppy mills. puppy mills don't equal high quality dogs even though your paying the price for a "high quality". i've rescued puppies from the pound before and i can tell you for a fact that they tend to be healthier than the puppies we get from breeders. i've heard countless stories of people who bought puppies from pets stores like the beverly center that ended up having pneumonia or ghiardia and on top of the hundreds to thousands of dollars spent on the puppy people are spending hundreds to thousands more just to get them healthy even though they're from breeders. the most economical and moral thing for a person to do is i believe is adopt. you spend a fraction of the cost, and you're saving a life, and you're still going to end up with a loving companion that you will cherish for life. sorry for making this so long but i need to make my point

Mixing breeds, the so-called designer breeds, can be a disaster...

I cannot believe the popularity of the "Labradoodle". Almost without exception, in the last 4 years, every Labradoodle I have dealt with (maybe two dozen), have had hyper, agitated temperaments. Hyperactivity from the lab, intelligence from the poodle, and not mixed in a good way. Most of these dogs have required extensive training, are much more demanding of attention than most other dogs, and in the wrong owners hands, they have been a disaster. Labs are great, poodles are great, mixing them is not...

If you're shopping for a true teacup dog, make sure that you are not being shown/sold tiny 5-6 week old puppies. At this young age, puppies cannot make eye contact and cannot follow your finger back and forth in front of their faces. It's not until right about 8 weeks that they are capable of following your finger back and forth, and to look you into the eye. They should also be eating solid food...

If I had a dime for every unknowing person that I have met in my career that has been sold a teeny tiny unweaned or force weaned 5 week old puppy (usually Yorkies or Poodles) as a "teacup" (only to have it grow into a full sized 6-8 lb. dog), I could afford a vacation in the Bahamas...!

If investing in a true teacup puppy, make sure to do your research and be prepared for blood sugar issues until they get over 2lbs. It's very, very common...

Here's a pic of my 3lb. Blue Merle Chihuahua, Inky. He is 5" tall (that's a 8" teacup collar with the smallest ID tag made)....
