I'm currently in Albuquerque for the annual NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) summit. On the way down we made a couple of stops.

Day 2:
Stayed in Lone Pine, CA in the Eastern Sierras.

Morning in the Alabama Hills at the base of Mount Whitney:

Day 3. We stopped in Winslow, AZ. Despite the fact that the town appears in several songs, it's a dump. That said, we drove about 15 miles North to the Little Painted Desert for sunset tonight. The clouds that had been covering sky all day went completely away but we still had some warm light.

We're planing on camping for a few days in Zion NP and Death Valley on the way back so I should have some more images when I get back.

Cheers

Awesome pictures beerguy.
can't wait to see your your pictures on your way back.
please post them here, I've just subscribe to this thread to wait for them.

Wow. Beautiful. I love the last 2 in particular. They remind me of macro lps shots (I have issues, I know...;)).

Thanks for sharing.

Great stuff Doug. I was in Lone Pine last April and there wasn't much snow in the mountains, it looks great with that much snow pack. Makes me want to head on down there.

Thanks.

Rich - I'm heading back through that area on Sunday and planning a stop at Mono. Hopefully I'll have some more fresh snow then.

Cheers

There is always "weather" where you go.
I never see atmospheric conditions like what you capture.

In STL we have a clear sky, or grey overcast. Pretty lame.

Great pics, I know the earth is not a doldrum in other places now.

I love them. Great job. It is 17 degrees outside right now, and I have no interest in going out to shoot anything. AZ must be awesome.

Nope. It's just that if the sky isn't interesting I don't include it. It goes hand in hand with what should be rule #1 of nature photography: If the light isn't interesting your shot won't be either.

When I get "blank blues" I look for other things to shoot.

Cheers

We're finally back home after 15 days. I'll post more pictures as I get around to sorting and processing. Here's a fun one that I shot in Death Valley on Friday. This is my "self portrait."
