I have a G1. I see this come up all the time in different apps... whats rooting it even mean? lol. I wanted to install a screenshot app, and it wouldnt work since it wasnt rooted.

rooting just lets you use different firmwares without being bonded to the ones t mobile updates. Theirs a couple hacks for once they are rooted, increase battery life, stronger reception, and over all speed increase.

im lookin at the HD2 now.

screen size just looks awesome. I havent used WM in awhile and like syncing with outlook but I just loooooooveeeeee android so much!

Winmo is still horrible. I had numerous winmo phones, all of them hacked running numerous different custom roms and then I finally jumped on the iphone bandwagon. For the fun of it, a month or so ago I bought a tilt 2 just to play with winmo again, but it still sucks. Numerous custom roms and still the same old glitchy hanging crap. My wife has an HTC G1 and I have to say android is a pretty sweet OS. Microsoft is going to have to make some huge changes to get back into the game.

Did you get it figured out? If not, go to AndroidForums.com and choose the "T-Mobile G1" Forum. From there, you will see a subforum named "All Things Root (G1)"... you will have all the information you need.

I rooted my Motorola Droid back in December manually, but later discovered DroidMod.org. They have software for automatic rooting, but I think they specialize only in the Moto.
