OT: Saguaro Lake

Was wondering if fishing here is good or just ok? Any tips? Also any bait shops around this lake or should I just get bait from Wal-Mart?

Id go a little furthur to canyon lake IMO bigger fish and nicer scenery. Bait shop I'm not sure of on your side but fishermans choice on 43rd and tbird usually have a lot of good stuff along with what's biting at the lakes at the time very knowledgeable

I have never fished there, but Saguaro gets pretty busy on the weekends. I don't think Canyon is any further than Saguaro. You take different roads to each.

I prefer saguaro you can hike down towards the dam off the main road or you can park next to the boat ramps and fish. I've caught bass catfish and bluegills there many of times. There is a bait shop at the marina there but your probably better off getting some at Walmart. You can also go to butcher jones which is a couple miles north of the main entrance good fishing there as we'll. canyon also has good fishing but saguaro is closer and I've caught the same amount at both lakes. Good luck!

There are plenty of fish in the lake and I've never gone without catching something. However, I don't like to fish there, especially this time of year, due to the boating traffic.

If you can get to the far shore or back into the lake then you will have much better luck. Shore fishing from the back side is okay but not great from the more public side.

Canyon is going to take a lot longer to get back into not only due to distance (Saguaro is about 20 minutes from my house, Canyon is about 40.) but because the road going into it is a much slower and curvy road. If you get behind a slow moving car towing a boat you're doomed. Route 88 is really pretty but not a road that gets you there fast. Whereas Bush highway is better, not great mind you, but better.

hm, as I get back into fly fishing weekends Ill have to check canyon out, I do prefer more secluded areas even if its a bit harder to get a bite. Plus I am limited to areas where I have room to cast back and forth.

Also heard parts of Oak creek are nice as well, not sure as I have only ever hiked it, not fished.

Very nice. I used to go fishing there with my dad when I was a kid, and Christopher Creek as well, though that one's not the same anymore Oak is pretty good.

Thanks guys for the replies!! I’m aware about the heavy traffic but hope to be out by 12pm or sooner.. This will be very early in the morning! We will be taking my father-in-law fishing boat that finally got fixed.. Will check out Canyon the following week : )

Always seen people fly fishing but afraid to get my self-hooked..lol!!

it happens, rarely, and the hooks are usually very small. Id say in the 4 or 5 years I was fishing frequently I hooked myself maybe twice.....tress and bushes along the shore are another story tho, that was twice per trip =P

I need a new reel and line though, mine has been sitting for 6-7 years now.

Since you have a boat you need to try Bartlett in the river there is a bunch of large flat heads for night fishing. Text me and I'll give you the area details
