OT: Selling my car

I'm trying to sell my car... and there's this buyer that needs it really bad, he seems like a great guy and trustworthy and all, but he doesn't have the cash right now. He said he should have it in two weeks. But if I hold the car until then he can't get to work and won't be able to buy it. Do you think I should trust him?

what kind of car? i am looking for an old honda accord/civic $5000-8000

mabe a toyota of some kind... depends

IMO, absolutely do NOT hand over the car without cash in hand....

to many liabilites..and what if's

I have been screwed by "the nicest" people before....

Case in point:

I let a guy test drive my guitar and amp ~$400 worth of equipment, to see if he liked it before he bought it....

....two months went by and I never heard from the guy. Last thing I heard was that he moved to Tennesee and pawned it all....still have not seen the guitar or the guy again...:mad2:

help the guy out by lowering your price...but you need to watch your own back FIRST!

Absolutely not... If it were something that was $20 possibly let them slide. But as has happened to others, don't give without getting the cash.

There are plenty of buy here pay here, you work you drive places around, I would send him that way ! I have sold a lot of vehicles and unless you know the guy and are good friends, would never even consider it ! If you do, atleast keep the title till paid for !

ya absolutly do not do give it to him with out getting the $ first.
his situation will suck, but you gotta look out for #1.

no way! I had someone try that with my last car. i finially said, look you put $100 down and i'll hold it.. other than that i cant do it..

No way. What about insurance, temp tags which you have to show insurance for. You would be asking for trouble. He wrecks it, your insuance has to pay and he doesn't buy it.

if i could get my wife to let me sell my car i would sell ya my 99 accord for 6500... but she's afraid i'd buy something more expensive...

she knows me all to well.. BMW 325i or Supra. here i come :)

ABSOLUTLY, DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! I asume you would not sign the title over to him until he has paid in full. So this leave total responsible if he is in an acident. Your insurance may not cover him since he is not on your policy. When mean YOU can be held responsible. OUT OF YOUR WALLET!!. Just went thru that 4 years ago. Still fighting insurance company and lawyers. A girl who did not have a liscence, bought a car from a friend, she was 17, he was 22. Girl ran a stop light, (Had to check out the super hot guy in the van next to her), and ended up t-boning me. took my car clear over to the other side of the intersection. and flipped the car over on its side. I was out of work for 9 months. Lost a lot of $$$. My car was totalled. And 4 years later. She is driving around in a brand new car like nothing ever happened. The 22 guy is AWOL. And his insurance company says, They do not have to pay for an unauthorized driver. Just don't do it.

I hate to say it but this was the response I was looking for (and sorry Trotty, I don't really have a car for sale). Even without recent events on here, why would you sell anything without cash in hand. We try to be nice people and trust each other but you just can't do that today. I just don't understand how there were even items out there that were not paid for. Is a tank or 100lbs of LR that much different than a car?

No, It's not. IMO survival of the fittest is LAW. That don't just mean who is physically stronger than who but mentally as well. I have fought for everything I have, And I fight everyday to keep it and in more ways than one. I'll give the skin off off my back to help an innocent child, But an adult.....It better be one H.E.double hockey sticks friend known for quite sometime and in a life or death situation first. I give nothing without first gaining something.
But that's just me and my freedom to choose to SURVIVE!
