I was shooting some friends today at our Labor day pool party and my buddy's girlfriend decided it would be a good idea to shove me and my Canon 30D+Grip+24-70/2.8L right into the pool.
What a genius!!!
Not only has my camera, grip and lens combo been destroyed, but my cell phone (SLVR L7) is also a paperweight now too!

:mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

Sorry just needed to vent.

And she's gonna pay for the replacements? Or your buddy can pay for the replacements.

If they don't pay up, you will know whether he's really your "buddy".

Opie, I know exactly how furious you must be, I have had this happen to me on a few occassions already, and the responsible parties never paid up.

wow, my jaw dropped, I would be so PI$$ED!! I'm so sorry, make sure she pays up, maybe then she'll understand how stupid she was.

Thanks fellas, she said she'd pay but we'll see what her reaction is when she gets the B&H bill for my destroyed gear.

By the way, with the psaug code, my bill comes to ~ $2579 including shipping. From Amazon, my cell is $399. This is NOT going to be pretty.

that's her problem, she should have known better then push anyone in the pool with their camera, even if it was a $200 Kodak, it's the fact of the matter. That's just my thoughts on it though.

Homeowners insurance might cover that. Regardless- sorry to hear about that man.

How would one even approach the insurer with a claim like this?
Total honesty or just that the camera is gone? :(

It was an accident right? Call and ask- it never hurts to ask. There will still be a deductible but it's better than nothing you know? I feel your pain :(

sounds like you should take her to court unfortunately :(

I hope it doesn't come to that as she publicly promised to replace my gear.

Oh man, that sucks bad. I know the feeling of breaking photography equipment, though not that expensive. I dropped my Nikon F3 (yeah, back in the midevil ages of film) and I broke the light meter that I had just gotten replaced not more than a week before. Ugh.

I hope it all works out for ya. :)

I'd file the insurance claim and get her to pay the deductible. It'll be a lot easier to get $1000 out of her than $3000. And that'll probably be enough to teach her a lesson.

As for filing the claim, it'd tell the insurance co. the truth about how it happened. "Accidents" happen and that's why we pay for insurance. They should cover it without any arguments.

I agree. Someone's $200 Kodak may be the most expensive camera they can afford.

Opie, if she's stalling, go to a solicitor (or lawyer/barrister friend) and have them send her a letter with the law firm's letterhead saying that she needs to pay up else legal actions will be taken against her. They usually pay up pretty damn quick in that case.

As for how she's going to pay for the damange? Well, that's her business, you just need your gear replaced and get shooting again!

I am going to keep the pressure up so I can get this resolved by the end of the week.
Any longer than that and the memory starts to fade and to her it might not seem to urgent anymore.

Wow, that sucks. Hopefully everything will work out in the end.

Good luck...

wow opie. i just realized why my jaw was starting to hurt. It was wide open as I read through ALL the posts.

I feel your loss man. Let me know if I can help you out.

Lord! I can't believe it. My brother borrowed my camera for a party, got it doused in ginger ale, of all things, but that was back in the days before digital. [I got some alcohol, a box of qtips, and told my family and my brother to leave me be for the next number of hours, I'd speak to him if it lived. One spring flew clear across the room and I never could find it, and I had one minuscule spring left over, but the camera [a 35mil] always worked...]

Modern cameras and cells are a whole different matter. Just thank God you didn't hit your head or break a bone when Miss Intellect pushed you.

You have a repair/replacement bill that should be proof enough for a court. Plus dig up any purchase receipts. You might call your own insurance company, but justice says she pays---and I'll bet she goes whining to your bud and trying to divide and conquer.

Oh man. It sounds like you're a better person than I am. I'd have bludgeoned her with it. :D
