Hi All,

The bulb blew on my rear projection TV and rather than replace the bulb I want to upgrade. Down here in Elmira all we have is Sears, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam's Club, and Target. Any other places to look at in Rochester, Buffalo, or Syracuse. Really looking to see some variety because it is really limited here.

Any siggestions for the "big city"?

Dave

Honestly any place you see them on display they are going to be adjusted to make the pricier systems look better than the cheaper ones. Best buy is the worst of the bunch. That being said, there's not much of a selection elsewhere.

I'd highly recommend Samsung displays. Can't really go wrong with them.

Watch the ads Sunday. I picked up a 50" zenith from sears for $550 with a $50 giftcard.

My buddy just picked up a 52" 3D tv with a 3D blueray player, surround sound, and an extra pair of glasses for 2 grand. Shop around for the best deal. Don't bother paying geek squad to dial it in unless you have no idea how to connect anything. I went on to avsforum(.com) for the picture settings. They also answer any questions you have.

I like to go to the stores and see which tv I like best, then buy it from newegg and save a couple hundred bucks :)

Thanks guys. The big problem I have is there is very little selection here to even look at. My last three TV were bought online (Newegg, Amazon, Vanns). I just like to shop around. It isn't always the picture quality I want to see. That can almost always be adjusted. I like seing the styling of the frame. Controls (if they have any), connections. Pictures only go so far.

Thanks again.

Dave

i always go sony and this is why :
5 years ago i bought a 60 sxrd sony bravia xbr it was 5000 bucks last year it developed a baseball sized light yellow stain on the screen i called sony and it was out of warranty so they offered me a 46" hx800 for free!!!!! or a 55 " ex710 for $150 no shipping charges for either i chose the 46 cause its a little better tv and i still got to keep my original 60" (the stain is not even noticable at all unless the screen is on a blank input) i didnt have room for another 60"( i have a 60 in my bedroom too) - customer service like that has made me a life long sony supporter( hx800 is a amazing tv by the way) another good choice is the sharp aquas quatran but any tv now is 10x better than anything made 3 years ago

That is weird our best buy here in vestal has pretty much every sony, samsung, lg and sharp on the market out on display. Pretty much they don't have the low end brands cause they sell there brand and they don't have any Mitsubishi's on display.

I like Samsung, have two a plasma and a LED LCD, great picture looks great and has pretty easy user interface.

I bought 46" LCD Samsung about 5 yrs ago. The picture still looks great, and have had no issues with it. Last summer, I planned in moving the Samsung to the family room, and pick up a 55 LED Samsung. After much reading, I bought the Sharp 60" LED Aquos. This has the best picture I have ever seen! Watching a blueray, amazing. My thoughts on the 3D craze . .it's just a fad, will fall off the shelves in a couple years.

I'd agree to a point, the new 3D tvs that are out now will not last long but not because its a fad but due to the fact of multiple companies spending millions on developing and perfecting technologies to have a 3D picture with out an optical devises such as the glasses that are out now.

The 3d picture on my buddy's tv is way better than at the movies. I don't see this fad going out. I can see the day where you can watch 3d without the glasses in the next few years

+1 I had the guy at best buy give me the whole tour of the thing and played practice dummy for them. Absolutely the best crap since color. If I had to pick between 420p 3d and 1180 p im going 3d all day. Then again we all KNOW all those blue ray players are gonna be total junk within two years prob way sooner. Netflix is shying away from discs and all in all streamed vdeo is the future. For ex my cell phone has full hdmi OUT and netflix is available on most. With 4g just breeching now your cell will be your setop box. Its already here now but the men in suits can't figure. Out how to lock it all up so people like me can't figure out how to get it all for free. Google android drm
