OT. this is really a shame

rccub23, I get your point here. I was a Unoin worker too, up until last year. To answer your question, Chevy's Malibu DOES in FACT get 30-35 MPG. My Dad has one and he drives 148 miles round trip to work & back each day. He's an old guy who pumps x amount of fuel, hits the trip and then watches his miles. He does the math with every fill up, x amount of gallons times x amount of miles and then has x amount of miles out of each tank. He tells me all the time that the car get's what it claims. Plus he says thats how he knows when it's time for the tune up. He bought it because of it's size (roomy) and fuel claim (30-35) he wanted the camery, but Chevy's deal turned out better.

I had a few guy's give me chit, about driving a Bettle bug once when at the Unoin shop. I stop that real fast too, I told them in front of a butt load of guys, YOU buy me the American car, and YOU fill it up every week and I'll drive it faithfully, until then shut up, Or meet me out in the street. Thank God other guy's chimed in on my side, cause I didn't want to go out in the street, that was going to hurt , ME!!

I bought a brand new ford truck once, a 1994 F-150, and the tranny went out while under warrenty, they had to replace it and told me this: Don't worry this truck has the Mazda tranny, we'll have it replace in a few days, your lucky it didn't have Ford's tranny, cause we don't have any on hand we have to oder them which can take a few days to get them in??? And the Dogde NEON that my wife use to have was a 1999 and it had a mistubeshi<<(not sure if that spelled right) engine under it.

kmf507 said it best when he stated:

Bottom line, any car you buy will benefit multiple economies.

I haven't heard any rattles or vibrations in the 2008 Malibu. Lots of room. Nice amenities like auto start, on-star and XM radio. And its pretty sharp looking in my opinion. Got the granite black gun metal wheels.

Look on craigs list I just got a 1999 CHEVY cavialer nothing fancey 5 speed, a/c that works for $2400. and it runs great and gets 35MPG oh and it also has 170,000 miles but it runs and drives great I get 430 to 450 out of a tank of gas so I would defintly look for somthing like mine because the best part is NO PAYMENTS and when I feel like I want to drive somthing else I just take the old gas gussler out of the garage and drive it for a day:D

every 08 Malibu in our fleet, 10 cars in all has eventually started the rattle. They take your dash apart, add some foam, good as new. Not complaining about the car I loved the one I had. Just an FYI so you can pick up on it early and avoid any warrenty issues. Later

WOW Rams, maybe they just did that to your comany, My Dad's is a 2005 and he lives out by SaltwaterChris on a dirt/rock road 1 mile off the pavement that is like a land mind for pot-holes so bad that I won't take my Doged Ram 1500 pick up to there house for fear of losing it in one. And his dash has never had rattling issue. In fact he's never had any issues with it since the day they bought it brand new. Hell he even raves over how the shock's are still holding up to his amazment. I'm not a big fan of the car myself, I call it the "old-timers" ride :). Maybe they saw you and said hey let's have some fun with these people, look who they hired   :D

Dude, your dad's is like an 05. Get with the program. :D The vibration noise bugged the poo out of me. Just given the guy a tip. He could have driven for months bangin on the dash sayin dang chevys like I did. Thats sad you baby your ram like you do. Like your afraid its going to brake or something. Maybe its all that flare you put on your vehicle making it look a lot less like a truck.

My wife and I are going to buy a new car soon, so I bought 3 annual auto reviews (consumer reports and two others mags). Reviews, comparisons, dimensions, safety ratings, etc. If you would like, let me know what model you are looking at and I can give you an idea what the 3 reports are saying.

Thats a good point. Many of the smaller Dodge/Chrysler vehicles use Mitsubishi engines.

If it were me, I'd be looking for a used Chevy Cavalier to beat down miles with. Also, manual transmissions can help many cars achieve better MPG. My car is a V-8, and I can get almost 30MPG just because I can shift into 6th gear on the highway.

I used to work at the Mitusbishi plant in Normal, IL until they had a mass layoff a few years ago. We were UAW and about 60% of the vehicle was built in the US. The engines and some other mechanicals were built outside of the US, and then we assembled the parts. We built the Eclipse, Galant, and Endeavor for Mitsu.

We also built the two-door Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Sebrings. They had the same engines and mechanics as the Mitsubishis that went down the line right next to them. Just an example of foreign/domestic built vehicles being assembled by American workers...

Oh, and my All-American Pontiac Trans Am was built in Canada. Go figure!
