Anyone have FIOS? Im switching to it next week and was wondering how other people like it. Ive seen it and it looks sweet! Few bucks cheaper too :)

dude it totallly blows cable away right now, the questio is if many peoplein the area get it will it be able to handle the bandwith

I've had it since November, overall better than cable but does have some downfalls.

Internet is faster, but this is also based on what service you get.
Verizon is not a shared service like cable so no you won;t see that slow down.

TV picture I think is much better, HD is excellent and does not have that pixalation problem cable and DirecTV has, FiOS had more channels but I don't consider the HD Zoom had as an upgrade; Kung Fu HD? No Thanks. Menus and guides are a lot faster, DVRs are about the same but next to TiVo they both need help. The biggest downside to Verizon is the pay per view, still very limited on new movies but thats it.

fios is awesome. I have had it for about 13 months now. My town was the 2nd on LI to get it. Internet is faster, the features on fios blows away cable. The only thing cable beat fios in is payper view movies. Fios gets like 3 movies a week when cable had 10-15 new ones. I upgraded to the HD recorder/media package and you can see any picture or listen to any music file on any computer in the house. Cable doesn't do that.

Awesome looks like i made the right choice :) Thanks for the input everyone. Ive seen the picture quality on my buddies tv and was impressed! I was looking for you guys that have had it more than a month. FIOS is new in my neighborhood! I think its great Cablevision has some competition now!!!

They've been running lines up and down my street for months now.I plan on swiching once its available. If its cheaper of course!
I have Dish for tv,verizon for wireless and DSL.

P.S. HATE Cablevision.

Definitely Fios. I've had Fios since April 2006 and I love it.

The only downside I heard is that you can't switch back to DSL after you have FIOS installed. But hey, why would anyone go back to DSL?

Hmmm. glad to see a successful challenge to the cablevision monopoly.

Like LIPA, Cablevision has had a monopoly for far too long. They havent had any motivation to get better/cheaper in a long time. I could never understand how a utility, which is a permitted and encouraged monopoly, which has its prices regulated in order to ensure a profit, could make its owners multi-billionaires.

Nice gig if you can get it I guess.

While I'm on my soap-box, there is pending legislation right now regarding something known as "net-neutrality". What that is about is ensuring that the internet stays open access, and providers cannot block access to certain web services (websites that have opposing points of view, use high bandwidth, etc) or charge "tolls" to competing services (vonage, youtube, craigslist etc)

Imagine if you couldnt access this site because the owners refused to pay the toll. Imagine if vonage never caught on and was successful pushing prices down. Imagine if your provider refused access to sites which he disagreed with. Some are pushing to have that kind of power and they have very powerful lobbies.

Debate is going on now, so if youre interested, get involved.

Here's wikipedia

What type of down load speeds are you getting with FIOS?

I've loked into it and it just seems crazy expensive for the same service I get with Cablevision.

I think I pay $54 for 30/5 Verizon want $179!! My Internet I can consistently pull down at 28Mbs for well over an hour with no degradation in service, the lowest I've found is about 24Mbs. I also upload easily at 5Mps with no problems too.

I had verizon for years when I had ISDN and really hated those people for how poor their service was for a $125 monthly product. I am very leary of going to them again.

Joe Ill let you know friday :)
Justin thats very interesting. Im actually a customer of Vonage for a few more days. The only reason i switched to verizon is that its part of the promotional package. The beauty of leaving Cablevision is that its already installed so if i decide for some strange reason to go back to them its easy to do. Im sure cable will soon be sending out there fleet of sales people once they lose enough customers. I have no sympathy for the Dolans LOL

I think the best I ever saw on Cable was 12 and that was when I was paying the extra for 'Boost', and even that was a rip-off IMO. I could tell exactly when school got out because the phone quality would brake up worse than my cell phone, and this was after they ran a new cable line to the house just for the modem.

Wow, I've not had any problems at all. My phone has been exactly the same with io VOIP as it was with my land line from verizon. Even without boost I was able to pull 14Mps all the time. The one time I had a problem with io internet they showed up at my house within 2 hours on a Sunday. I never got that kind of response from verizon.

I have no love for cablevison, I only pay for voice and internet, all my TV is through direcTV. But Verizon (NYNEX )****ed me off so bad when I used them that I really don't see any problems with cablevision compared to the nightmare that I had with verizon. It got so bad eventually that I complained to the right person and all my service issues went through one guy who called and followed up with everything they did.

Why are you typing? Shouldn't you be doing some rockwork or something?!:)

I think i read someplace that Verizon ranked very low in customer service. I do believe there trying to correct that. I called them today to request they put the box on the opposite side of the house and they said no problem and would make a note to the installer that runs the line to the house to put it there. I really dont want to see that big ugly green box! :)

I want to stwich BUT Verizon does NOT have FOX Sports HD So no Islanders games in HD so untill I can watch the Islanders in HD its cablevision for me

I still use Cable IO voice lines (business) as it's still cheaper than Verizon but the quality at times just leaves a lots to be desired. I still have a working Internet connection from them I haven't used it in months, I hated the charged extra for business line to open port 80 and 25; static wasn't available. I still love the tag line HD is free, you just need to pay for IO to get it.

What still makes me laugh at all this is Cable has the better voice plans but Verizon has the better TV, go figure.

Give him some time Joe, the tanks finally got water in it :D

Static IP is available for business customers with Cablevision now.
Soon static is going to residential customers also

CV has 30/5 for the speeds uncapped and in the next few months will be hard with the 50/50 which from what we are hearing is not going to be much more if you want it.

Businesses dont have to pay extra for port 80 and port 25 those were open by defauly resi users have to use boost to open 80/25 but with boost you get hostway access for free to host your own website either thru them or setup a web server in house and admin it.

Believe it or not we have a high amount of customers coming back to CV from Fios because as they put it it sounds good but its not they were getting charged more for the same level of service CV offers and they have no tech support over the weekends Verizon tech support is mon-fri CV is 24/7 365 including all holidays.

And cv will also get a tech to your home same day if there is an issue verizon still doesnt offer that should there be any issues.

As much as I hate Cablevision, I have TV, Internet and phone with them. I don't like giving them the money, but I'm not changing now, not unless Verizon absolutely blows me away with a price that beats CV by half. I don't see that happening, so I figure that I'm dead stuck, until I move away.
