ot.what is a goldendoodle look like?or labradoodle?

Look in the paper for someone who sells them

or better yet

start searching the web for people in Cali who breed them.

I love all hounds, from Walkers to Blue Ticked Coon Hounds. They are medium sized , extremely smart, but more mellow. They like to track things though, so it's important they get walked alot and get to go find things. I also love pointers (German wirehaired pointer). They are more athletic though, so definitely need to be run regularly. For small dogs, I love wirehaired Jack Russells, but they are extremely energetic and need tons of energy releasing excercise. In fact a lot of small dogs have more requirements for vigorous excercise.

But seriously, I recommend adopting a mutt from the SPCA. There are so many dogs put to sleep every year that would have made a lovig pet, and mixed breed dogs have great temperament and usually more resistant to arthritis and defects from purebreds (aka inbreds). Ever wonder why labs, shephards, and retrievers all seem to get hip dysplasia? or why pugs and sharpeis are so prone to skin infections? inbreeding baby, inbreeding.

You can also get purebreds through a rescue center, rather than a breeder. This is a great option if you would like to save a life and still have a pedigreed dog.

On the heels of what Darcy has written is to really see how your kid does with the dog and vice versa first before deciding on getting a dog at all.

Some kids like to shriek and if you have a really skittish dog it's going to freak them out - it could freak them out to the point that they bite.

My nine year old niece whom I'll be missing out on her birthday dinner tomorrow still bears a two inch scar on right cheek two inches below from her eye from a neighbor's Jack Russell Terrier (which was put to sleep shortly thereafter).

my daugther love dogs since she's 6 month old.i didn't get one becuase we're still living in an apartment .now that we're just bought a house .i feel i have enought space for a dog.:)

Some terrieres don't do well with kids.. They can be very prey oriented... I'm partial to lap dogs myself.. Here is my dirty lap dog..99% hypo allergenic.. All the exercise they need is about 40 minutes of throwing her toy every day.... 7 years old and still like a puppy...

Bichon Frise are don't have fur they have hair so people who normally who have allergies associated with dogs should be fine with dogs like this

Im sorta in the same boat, but for myself (no daughter here). The two breeds I was looking at are the miniature schnauzer and the australian shepherd. Might be worth a look.

French bulls make great pets too

From my personal experience most australian shepherds and heelers are more one person oriented.. There are always exception to the rule but most I've seen are more one person dogs...

miniature schnauzer ,that my second choice if i can't find australian terrier.

Im almost at the stage of contacting breeders and such. shoot me a pm if you're interested in visiting a few kennels as well.

My Austrailain Sheperd was the most loyal inteligent dog. Followed me everywhere and would sit by the door until I came home. You could bring it shopping and would sit outside the door waiting for you. Calm, inteligent and loyal. You can give commands with your eyebrows, he was such an obedient want to please type of dog. Negatives are they tend to have their favorite person and are not silly and entertaining like my Papilion (sp). Paps are funny active and puppy like forever. Negatives are they like lots of small lap dogs are hard to house train. Aussi would cross their leggs till they got sick but the Pap, well, if there are people over, if it's raining, or whatever....

Great dogs. They are herding dogs so they will have a tendency to want to herd thing like kids. These dogs are fast and agile - ever see these things on Animal Planet - the agility trials - wicked quick like greased lightening.

Aussie's are amazing dogs!! They are so smart it's mind boggling. They have tons of energy and need a place to run though and they can be very oriented to one person, which would be OK if the dog picks the right person. lol Our dog is a mutt, we really don't know what he is but he's ours and even though he's a pain sometimes we love him. :) We adopted him from our local rescue that has since shut it's doors. I highly recommend visiting www.petfinder.com and searching your area for dogs up for adoption. Or finding the breed you want and then doing a search for a rescue that has dogs available. I try to avoid breeders myself, I'd rather give a dog a good home and lots of love then just to try to have 1 specific breed. But that's just me! :) I also prefer to search out the rescues for the breed I might be interested in. To this date I haven't contacted a breeder....I have been tempted though!

Mona, talk to me about the Pap please, they are so cute and I would love to learn more about them.
Kerri :)

Westies [terrier: white, look a bit like a Bichon] are honest little north country dogs, smart, affectionate, hyper when they need to be. Never met one that wasn't a likeable character, and the right size for a child.
