A few months ago I was talking about getting a wireless router. Well I finally got it up and going a week ago. Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz. Most the time it works great but every now and then It shows I have no networks to connect to not only mine but usually I can see somebodys around me that also has a wireless up.. I can even stand right next to the hub and nothing. Anybody have any clues as what Might be causing this?

Take that back just looked at the properties..

The Wireless is a 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card - Installed by the factory.

Not sure I know what you mean by that.

I have just been using the router to connect to the internet not really as a network between Computers.

So it is a built in wireless? It is not a removable card correct? Have you went to Dell and downloaded the newest drivers for it?

Just tried updating the driver.. It now shows a Wireless Utilities that I can see all the Wireless routers that are hooked up around me.. At first it didn't work because it said I had to hit Fn F2 then I was able to see everything. I'm hooked to the Lan now So I'm going to Reboot and see if that works.. Do you have to hit the Fn F2 button IF you enable it in the settings? Or does the Fn F2 over ride everything? I might have it that by mistake and that was what was blocking me? Not sure I will let you know in a sec if that was the case..

Woo Hoo!! Something worked... Thing was about to drive me crazy!!! Now my Wireless Light on the laptop is on.

Make sure you have the newest drivers and if it happens again try repairing the connection. You can do that by right clicking the connection icon in the bottom right and then repair

another thing to check is what channel your router is broadcasting on. try not to use channels 6 or 11 those are the most common. also, I had an issue where my neighbors cordless phone would knock me off.. so i had to shoot the neighbor.. err.. wait. i just went to a wireless a-g router. 5.8ghz is nice. :)

What frequency are your phones running on? There is a possibility that the phones are interfering with the wireless signal.

My phones are all old so I don't think that is the case. But I'm not sure about the neighbor..

How do you check what channels you are on?

You still need to enable the security protection on your router. Otherwise all your neighbors will be able to use your router. BTW where do you live I'd like to come by and download some stuff w/ my laptop. LOL Also you should make your connection to your router the preferred connection method otherwise you will always be waiting awhile before you get connected to your network. Hell, you might even be connecting to someone else router if they don't know what they are doing either.

I do have the security protection on the router. I have a 10 digit code you have to enter to hook into the router.

And I do have it to where my router is the preferred connection.

My problem was I didn't know the Fn F2 button over road all network settings. Once I hit that again it worked perfect.

For the first 3 months that is what I did was connect to someone else router. They did have the PC where it would not let you share files so I couldn't see what was on there PC..

That is exactly what it does. I must have hit it and not have know it. It over rides all the settings on the Network all together.
