OT- would anyone like some fresh calimari?

I went fishing today for "Humblot" squid and brought back about 200lbs between me and my buddy....26 in all with the largest weighing in at over 60lbs and almost 5 feet long! Anywho, I'm not looking for anything for it just wanted to share:fun4: 707-483-0293

Of all the fishing ive done over the years, theese suckers are the toughest by a mile. They're one of the most voracious species of marine life I've ever encountered.So voracious in fact, I saw one laying on the deck trying to eat another one even with a huge whole in it's side from being gaffed up the deck.They're over running fisheries and out competeing lots of other marine species for food. So I'm proud I could help in keeping these things under control.

I'm in for some of that Squid, maybe I can trade some wine if you like. I'm glad you got a lot as they just rape the water column of all the bait an anything they can catch. I'll give you a call and we can hook up at your convience Mike

hey bud I'll trade you for some and I'll give you some jalapeño gouda cheeses boar sausage. This is prime sausage the best I have ever had, it is already precooked. I just picked it up from buds in RP. I'll give you a call tonight

Mike-I'll definately take some vino off ur hands. I'll be around all night. I hear they made it all the way to alaska this year. I've never killed an animal for sport only to feed myself and others, however I would make an exception for these little buggers! The captain said as a whole (the boat)we took home over 1,000 lbs and barely effected the population.
 
so you went out on a charter boat? My GF got me one fro my b-day last year but it rained and a atorm came in so we got a refund. It sounds fun...i think she paid like $200 for just me to go for a day. but i never got to go. Are you up for a dive this sunday? it is gonna be cold burrrrrr
 
just looked at the conditions....

"The swell increased a bit today, up to 8 feet at 15 seconds from the northwest. This swell should continue into tomorrow. The exposed shoreline will be rough! (The weather should be nice though.) More swell is on the way! It is a little unsettled out there and I am reading several different reports, one of them calling 20 foot surf on Saturday. Any way it shakes out, it looks like rough conditions for the rest of Ab season!

Be aware that the day use parking along most of the coast will be closed Nov. 2 - June 30 due to CA State Parks budget reductions. Fort Ross will be open Fri-Sun. Gerstle Day Use will still be open (though the bathrooms are closed)

The kelp is very thick in a lot of dive locations, it is wise to streamline your dive gear down to avoid any entanglements.

REMEMBER! Drop your weightbelt at the FIRST sign of any trouble in the water. Not dropping the weightbelt in time is the # 1 factor in abalone diver drownings.

gurrr looks like no more abb for the season.....i knew i should have filled my card when i had the chance! maybe no abb for the christmas party. If it calms down i cna still go spearfishing and look for urchin
 
yeah i went with my GF's father and brother in law. we left bodega at 5am went out 40-50 miles and were back at the docks by 1pm. It was definately an experience i wont soon forget. I really wanna go tuna fishing.
 
so do you cut steaks out of them?
sounds too big for rings and tentacles

yeah i make steaks from the "bell"of the squid. The heads and tentacles get used for crab bait. The steaks are very thick....like a beef steak....not like the thin litttle 1/8'' steaks u get at the store. Very tender. I've got plenty to gie out still. gimme a call.

Jake do you think it will be a problem if you hold it for me till the meeting? I don't plan to go to SR this weekend. But I got that sausage for ya.
