Well the day has finally arrived, Shawn at EbayFish has a tracking# for my new Pinwheel for the 3000 pump for my dnw200 recirculating skimmer. Anyone wanting to try these new pinwheels can now get one from Ebay. They are supposed to be a big improvement over the stock needle-wheel or mesh modded impellers. Hope to have mine on and running by the weekend? And will post results for anyone interested.

Would you mind taking pictures of the pump, specifically the impeller? I honestly didn't know that there was a change to the pumps, mine works so well, I can't imagine what would be improved. Is it just the impeller that changed?

OK, I will take a picture b4 i install it. And yes the pinwheel is supposed to greatly improve performance over needlewheel or meshmod for reliability (not worrying if it comes apart) plus the added heat factor. This pinwheel was designed by CoralVue as an improvement to the skimmer.

hum.... how long have they been available, my DNQ-150 is actually sold as a "pinwheel" not a needlewheel. Not sure if the jargon has changed, but I might already have one of the new pumps. I bought it over the summer from TitansFan, but he got it from Emerald Bay originally shortly before that.

It would be easy to check next time you clean it! Go to Coralvue's website and you can see the different impellers. I don't think they have been out very long OTP 2000 pumps were the first to have it i think, but how long i don't know! Call Ebay and ask Shawn He might know the answer for you.

Ah, cool, the pictures on the website do confirm it, I have the old style... I'll be looking forward to your thoughts then! Thanks

Wont have it until Monday Fedex has it sitting in Memphis today! If it wasn't so far i would go get it myself. Waiting for months to get this I'm getting antsy!!!

Well here we go again, Picked up the new Pinwheel got home pulled my skimmer apart while i was soaking the new one in vinegar to speed up the break in period, low and behold it's not the right one way too small! must be for the 2000 pump. So back to square one, but Shawn is trying to contact Vue to see what happened and get it resolved. Will post again when i get the right one. Sorry!

If anybody is wanting a pinwheel for a 2000 pump send me a PM, Just want what i paid for it. This way i don't have to return it to Ebay.

Thanks Bill

Bill, replied to your PM.... Can sean order stuff from coralvue? I was going to order a new pump elbow (with the air inlet) directly, but if he can get them, perhaps it'll help him/you/me with shipping on the other pinwheel? If so, let me know, I'll call him directly.

Well here it is.......finally got it today. Here's a pic of it.

I'll let you know how it is after it breaks in for a couple of days, but right out of the box it seems to be producing as much foam as
the mesh mod, that's without it breaking in. It will probably take a couple of days to break in.

Well i guess you don't have a needlewheel Octo because they are totally different and much larger. And I'm sure everyone has their own opinion as to what works and what don't, the proof is in the poop!!!!!

Bump, for the people that are interested in upgrading their OTP3000 pumps to the new pinwheel, Here is a photo and to let you know they are available. Got mine Thur the LFS via CoralVue! Just installed it and it has not broken in yet but seems to match the mesh mod foam right away, seems to be pulling more air as the noise is louder from the air line. (No Meter) The pump it self seems to be a little warmer too. Hope that's not a problem. Anybody else already have this installed on the dnw200 comments welcome.

Coming up on 24hrs and its definitely got a dense very dirt filled head of foam, seems to be less skimate overall but much darker and denser foam! looks equal to meshmod at this point more or less. Gonna wait till morning and see, then will add Enkamat to the new pinwheel without cutting anything to see if performance improves! If not I'll just take it off, and use it as is. Wish i had more to say but at this point that's it.

OK Vue here's my grade on the new Pinwheel.
1. Needlewheel Stock= needs improvement
2. Neddlewheel Mesh Mod = Pretty good/3layers mesh/fish-line
3. New Pinwheel= Almost as good as meshmod/ Dense stable head of foam/but lacking quantity of Skimate
4. New Pinwheel/2layers mesh added/sm zipties/ Extremely dense amount of foam in body( looks like milk ) Almost immediate head of very dense foam/Quantity equal to neddlewheel meshmodmeshmod and exceeding all other tried improvements!

So i hit the bar by accident b4 i was done! Also noticed that the pump runs cooler After the new Pinwheel was modified, don't get that but it's so. Anyway i think i have reached as much performance as i can get from this model and i must say that it's pulling an amazing amount of skimate from my tank. All in all very good skimmer for the money if your willing to tweak a little bit. So i guess the Reeflo 250 will have to wait for awhile!!!

No i did not sorry, i took it back to Ebey but as far as i know they had three of the 2000 pinwheels last time i was there. Shawn is out of town but you can call Kevin and ask him to hold one for you. PS if you need some Enkamat to meshmod let me know I'll bring you some to the swap.

Thanks Bill

Sorry, It must have been because I replied directly to your email from here, not sure that actually emails you back directly. I'll swing down and see Shawn then, thanks!
