Our 210 upgrade is underway!!!

Yeah, just the dart is running in that pic, but the water level is pretty low in that pic as well.

Just noticed how cute and little the Vlamingi tang is in that pic compared to the most recent pic. :)

The sump was not hooked up yet. The dart was the only circulation in the tank until the sump got hooked up.

Floor jacks

Floor jacks

Where did you get those floor jacks? Do they just sit on the floor? My father-in-law was telling me to drill out the concrete slab floor and pour a 12" deep footing...seems like over-kill to me... My joists (2x10) run parallel to the tank (180 gal), so all weight will be supported by 2 joists spanning the 12' room (along with the concrete wall that sits below the wall that the tank will sit against (follow?). Enter crude ASCI drawing:

wall =============================
joist1--------------------- | Tank | --------
joist2--------------------- |_____| --------

I figure I'll have to put a post or jack under joist2 at the 2 corners of the tank.

What do you think?

I got the floor support in this evening. I took 2-2x8x8's and nailed them together and then put it purpendicular to the floor joists underneath the front of the tank and put 3 adjustable floor supports underneath that on each side and in the center. 2-2x2's are nailed to the floor joists on both sides of the new joists to keep the joist from slipping out.

Off to get the tank in the a.m. and the drilling of the closed loop should be done on Wednesday. :)

FYI, I am adding a 210 to my house. I am also getting a room addition soon, so I had an architect come out to my house. While he was there I asked him if I needed to add more support and if so what. My situation is that I have 2x10's 16" apart spanning about 8 feet from the concrete foundation to an "I" beam running through the middle of the floor. My joists run perpendicular to the tank so I have about 5 under the tank. He told me I probably wouldn't have to add anything, but if I wanted to feel more comfortable, I could add a couple extra 2x10's - which I plan on doing - I will probably add about 5-6 as I would rather be safe than sorry. Since all this weight would be on only 2 beams, you are going to have to do something significant to support the floor. I don't think drilling out the foundation is necessary, but you will need to add more support.

The metal posts are sold at Menards.

Well, as quickly as this tank went up, it came down. In an effort to lower our electrical bill, be tore down the 210 + 45 combo, sold it off and are now setting up a 140gal. cube. :D

No huge return pump from the basement, no monster skimmer, 720w less light, etc.

It doesn't make the cut-off for 'large tanks', but here is a link to the build thread if you'd like to check it out.

i hear you my electric is killing me im in the same boat, it's only by luck that i am able to sell enough frags a month to keep the tank up & running.

I'm adding a 210 to my house and am trying to copy your stand. Do you have any other up close pics? Do you know how the frame was attached? With Nails or Wood Screws? Any help is appreciated.
