Our 210 upgrade is underway!!!

mmotown, I am using the 33 gal. Brutes. The local HD didn't have the bigger ones at the time. The 'Brute' container will have the word 'BRUTE' in black letters right on the side.

tacocat, the 'clamfugium' has a 250w DE in a PFO mini-pendant over it, nothing else.

bigdee65, the skimmer is an MR-2 and that's it. I will be getting an extended riser tube for it soon, which will make it the MR-3. I'm thinking I might need a little HOT skimmer on the clam tank as it seems to hold more nutrients than the 210, kind of like a nutrient settling tank.

Thanks "E"

Looking good ereefic. Cant wait to get our 210 going. How is the MR-2 working for you, and what pump do you have running it? We are thinking on going with the MR-2 also.

Thanks z28cam.

The MR-2 is working well, but I am going to get an extension riser which will basically make it the MR-3. We have between 350-400 gal. total water volume, and a high bio load. I am running the Gen-X PCX 55 and I would recommend this pump highly.

Time for an update, hope you don't mind. :)

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for there nice comments throughout this thread. Better late than never. :o

Well, the original sump started leaking several months ago, so I put in a Rubbermaid 100g. stock tank. I don't like it is much as the glass sump, but it's working. I plan on lowering the fuge and frag tank because the stock tank is sitting on the floor. They needed to be so high before because of the glass sump. Not sure when i'll get around to that.

We still haven't gotten the new canopy system yet, and probably won't for some time.

Believe it or not, the stand is still holding strong and the floor has not collapsed. :)

We just upgraded our skimmer. We were running an MR-2, but it wasn't cutting it with the gianormus fish load. We got a MR-4R recirculating beckett. It's only been running for about 2 days, but very impressed so far.

We did some re-aquascaping, so i'll get some pics up soon of how everything looks now.

Here's the new skimmer:

Can't wait to see new pics. I also want to know how the skimmer works for you over time. I have the same skimmer sitting in my storage room at work awaiting my 225-240ish display this spring. What pump are you running the MRC 4 on, the Gen-x won't drive it or will it?

I'm running a GRI 520 from the skimmer, to the skimmer. Right now, i'm running a PCX55 feeding the skimmer. I will be switching that over to a Mag 9.5 or 12 soon though.

I had the skimmer set a little to wet last night and pulled out about 3 gal. of yellow skimmate in about 8 hours. I just dropped the water level a little to dry it up abit.

This is the color of the skimmate from last night.

I hoping to gravity feed mine right from the display and was considering the BL pumps that MRC recommends for the MRC 4. I am still researching options as I hope to run the system as efficiently as possible. (don't we all as or electric meters spin wildly out of control) I'll be tagging to learn from your adjustments. :)

I decided to go with the GRI 520 because it was the most efficient pump I found that would produce the GPH I wanted.

I thought about feeding it with an overflow, but felt for the system size that the gph wasn't going to be sufficient. I may still try it down the road to see if there is any difference.

Oh one more thing, I looked back at pics of your sump. The glass one looked like a new partitioned tank. Is that what started leaking on you? If so, that stinks! I have a 150 Rubbermaid stock tank that I don't think I want to use as a sump either I picked it up used, more for an emergency holding/water change tank than a sump.

Actually, that sump was our old tank. Figured I may as well use it for something. I put it on a different stand, which was a little shady, than it was originally on and I think that is what caused it to leak.

The rubbermaid is nice, but I need to find a way to section it off.

Yup, that's the problem, I think the short answer is containers within the tub plumbed as you need them. Cumbersome I think. Or it's solvent welding in partitions that must be cut to the rather curvy sides of the tub. Possible, but not for me. You still need to account for fill during drain events without flooding section you may not want flooded. Yikes, this is complicated! I am still scratching my head over the foot print of the fish room and what the final sump, fuge and return sump vessels will be.

Anyway, love your project so far!

$613.99 + TAX

WOW... that is a good price...
I got mine in a HOLIDAY MADNESS sale, WHOLESALE was like 580 with the overflowkits included... and thats the WHOLEALE price MINUS 40% discount!!!!

you got a BANGIN' DEAL!!!

I would expect a 2" to do fine and the parts are readily available in 2" with out spending big $s in 21/2 or 3" flanges.

I would not use a smaller bucket inside the outer bucket as you may have to compromise on the height of that inner piece. I'd use a piece of 6" DWV (or scd 40 PVC if you have access to it) pipe from HD or LOWES. Cut it to the exact height you want and solvent weld it to the bottom of the bucket.

It's a great idea, simple cheap and should eliminate those pesky micro bubbles!

Well, I had a piece of 8" PVC (the green stuff) and cut it a little shorter than the bucket. I siliconed it in and am waiting for it to dry. I'm going to pick up a 'double wye' to run the 3 drains into and then run it threw the lid of the bucket. Not sure if i'll finish it up today or not.

Hey Eric,

When I came over to see your tank I thought I gave you a plan for a bubble trap using 12" pvc from CB&K plumbing that would work the same as a bucket. If I didn't let me know I will give it you.
Doug

Douglass, actually you did. I never tried it. :( I kept the filter socks on for awhile, but totally forgot about your remedy.

Good news is, the new 'bucket bubble trap' works, and real nice I might add. Now, I need to make something similar, for the skimmer output. :)
