Our 375g reef tank build & fish room

Baby bangais are awesome. I had a bunch that just survived in my DT last year but since I redid the aquascape I haven't seen any more. 3 survive and one of them seems to be paired. The 2 pairs live in harmony.

Hey NexDog,
If they survived in your DT I want to know your secret!
The other BC must be a female as well. I bet they are making babies every 30 days. Keep your eye out for the "dance" :love2:
How is your tank doing BTW?

the fish room just shows how much some one is in the hobby. great work

 We are very lucky to have a fish room. I certainly would not have 5 aquariums in our home with out it.
PLUS I never have to worry about the yuckie fish water hitting my floor.

A seahorse and a bangai breeding set up? More 40Bs going into the fish room ?

I told you you girls always get what you want! :D

Well hello Bax!
How's it going? Have you had a chance to get the big tank up and running?

I finally had Ed play with his saw and finish the fish room :lmao:
I'm not very good at nagging or else the fish room would have done a long time ago :lmao:
Today we have to paint and place the FRB on the frame... I'll take some pictures later and post them.
So out tank collection so far is the BIG tank, (1) 30g for the seahorses, (2) 40g breeders, 1 is going to be a combination frag tank along with our clown fish and 1 pair of Banggai Cardinals, the other tank is for our 2nd pair of Banggai Cardinals and I will finally move all the misfit corals to that tank for Ed. Last but not lease (2) 10g holding tank, 1 is currently a nursery for the babies and the other is QT tank.
We thought just dipping the corals was safe, I'm here to tell you it is not!
We had a case of red bugs, and it was awful
We have truly learned a lesson, nothing goes into the DT without being QT first!

A few survived by hiding in the anenomes. The new pair still hang out very close to the nems. The others survived because they got swept into the overflows. Was quite a shock to look in there one day and find 3, 2 in one and 1 in the other. :)

Tank is doing okay, been adding more fish. Added some moonlights lately and finally hooked up my light hood to a slider/roller system. Next major task is buffing out all the scratches and other damage. I've lost about 50% visibility in places and have a mesh kit being shipped in. If I can get it cleaned up I might make more of an effort in the future. :)

Very interesting hiding in the anemones! I'm surprised they didn't eaten by the nem!

I love the LED lights for moonlights, it brings out such wonderful color in our corals.
Is you tank acrylic?
Good luck with getting the scratches out! I'll check your thread for progress:thumbsup:

I know its been a long time since I posted to my own thread :o
I had a little set back, and "I" have not been able to do any "real" work on our system...
I finally got released by the Doctor to move about freely, but with care!
I even get to go the Jaguar game on Sunday

Here is a picture of the "unfinished" set up of the (2) 40g breeders

ED and I have ordered parts for a DIY LED system from Rapid LED, for the frag tank.... Hopefully, we will not have any real issues assembling the parts
I wanted to try LED lights on the frag tank for two reasons:
1) I want to see if LED lights will actually grow corals.
2) I wanted to keep the heat down in the fish room, as well as the amps.

If this one goes smooth, which I'm sure we can build it, we will build another one for the softies tank....

I will take a picture a little later to show you the finished product....

The baby Banggai Cardinals have been moved from the 10g holding system and into one of the 40g breeders and they seem to be enjoying a bigger tank. Feeding the babies in the bigger tank was a little difficult for them, but it didn't take long for them to swim a little faster to eat!
On one of my few trips into the fish room, for some strange reason, I looked into one of the refugiums, don't ask me why I felt the urge to look in there as this is usually Ed's department....
And I found a GREAT surprise, a baby Banggai had been living in there since we came home from MACNA! I could not believe it... Ed and I got a big kick out of how much work we were doing to hatch BBS every night, gut load and feed the little ones, and here is Mother Nature doing what she does best!
"lucky" is doing very well, the other fry greeted him/her with no aggression and is eating frozen food.....

WOW. I just read through this whole thread. AMAZING. I love the details in the planning, and that fish room is a dream! It's interesting how despite all the beautiful corals reefers see, a floor drain will still get everyone jealous.

Ed does nice work Sandy!
The stands look great!
Congrats on the baby cards!!!

... And I think you'll like the LEDs in this application. I'm using some over the frag tank where I'm holding my acros during my FW battle. The SPS really seem to like the LEDs and they are much much cooler! The colors are very nice in the SPS. As for growth, I remain convinced 400w MH grows them faster, but they are definitly growing!

Thanks so much for all your kind words....
Despite all the ups and downs we have had with the tank, we are very pleased how everything has turned out!

Yes, having a floor drain is still one of the smartest and most expensive asset's we have in the room.

Ed is still trying to convince me "not" to add the second sink back to the room.
So I have been trying to plan us working in the room at the same time with only one sink........
So far I think he finally realizes, we really do need that second sink....
I asked him to build some kind of top that we can fold up or down for more counter space.... another project, right :(

We moved a few pieces from the DT to the frag/grow out tank to see how or if they will grow under LED's.... I will "try" to post a picture of the frag tank in action soon....
We are also planning to remove some of the "start-up" corals out of the DT and I'm looking into a different, more higher end selection of corals...

We are hosting a club meeting in March, so moving some of the "start-up" colonies out of the DT to the grow out tank and selling them will help with the transaction

Sandy

Doing great! I'm currently at a stand still, reefing wise. I must finish some remodling details on the family room and then lay a new floor before I can begin work on the new tank....

.... Can you loan me Ed for a week or so? ;)

Don't you just LOVE remodels!

I can certainly loan you Ed, but I have to come along too! :lolspin:

Don't tempt me!!!! I'll prep the guest room and restock the beverage center in a heart beat for high caliber assitance like Ed!
