Thanks, wnaing. The lighting that I am using on the Acans is natural sunlight with actinic supplementation; the tanks are in our greenhouse. I also have found that too much light would cause our lps corals to bleach out. We put a shade cloth on the greenhouse and went with T5 actinic to help with the spectrum of lighting and we are very pleased with the coral coloration we are getting. As for getting the Acans to grow onto another rock as you described, it will probably kill the polyp if you put the rock against the face or mouth of it. (Just my opinion) it would or should grow onto another rock if it is placed next to the outside edge of the frag or colony. Maybe someone can chime in on this matter we are all learning together from each other’s experiences.

From your post, I am assuming it would be the best to place on top of an another rock so that a skeleton edge can spread onto new rock. Do I understand right?
Light is hard to control for me. My acans are in sps mix tank and very hard to find the dim spot in the tank. I think it would be best to have separate tank for them. What do you think of the flow? I have tries one of the colony in the high flow area once. It was doing very well for a week or two. And then, some of the polyps started to lose some tissue. What kind of flow do you give? Thanks.
Pics of my not so nice acans.

Thanks for the info.Originally posted by Palancarpets
They will grow to a nice colony over time. The speed of growth depends on tank conditions, lighting, and feeding. Some of the smaller colonies are my micomussa collection in the front of the tank. I have found that buying some 4 polyp frags and getting them to grow gives my wife and I great satisfaction to me this is what the hobby is all about. It is also easier to get smaller frags of the more exotic colors when paying $40+ per polyp. And yes every Aussie Acan collector will get to that point in collecting. I have bought from Aquatic Auction, Zoanuts, Austin Aqua Farms, Mr. Coral, local shops, and other acan collectors. I also love trading frags which I have done in the past at swap meets and club meetings I was able to attend.

Thanks for the info.
I'm always looking for new co. to purchase corals from. I just went to the Zoanuts and unfortunately they had no corals at all. Is this unusual?
Thanks ---
Chris
I'm going to keep checking on a daily basis. I hope its going to be worth it. I'll take your word for it. If you get a chance, take a look at Aquatic Auctions. He's got some awesome acans on auction right now.Originally posted by Palancarpets
It is my understanding that they are redoing the web site and they are in the testing mode right now. They will be coming back and I am sure they will be better than ever. I am also waiting patiently myself.

You all have a very beautiful tank-o-cans and it is great to see how beautiful they are with you all using the greenhouse. I want to do something like that as well. Maybe one day when you all have time we can exchange numbers and you can give me some insight.

That is true, until I realize that my tank is too small. Obviously, I will need a new tank, then some more coral.. Oh well, I am an addict of Favia, so go with the flow.
Though I've maintained enough control not to spend my vacation money for now.

I think I have an acan infestation...lol. I think it is awsome that the two of you share such a great passion. Makes spending money on your hobby less stressful when you both are trying to buy the same things.
