The angel is a female swallowtail. The males are really good looking too! I'd love to get a male.
We added the royal gramma as the 2nd fish to Bob's tank after the pair of clowns, and had no problems what so ever.
I put the royal gramma as the first fish in my tank, with no problems.

When we got the shipment of the angel, foxface and cardinal, I had them in the QT and the poor cardinal died because I didn't check the ammonia level in the tank after the 2nd day. The reading was fine the first 2 days, and I just didn't think to check it after that. It was just too many fish in a small 10g tank.
I'll never do that again...that's for sure.

Hello again everyone!
I posted awhile back, promising to post some pictures of my non-tbs tank. Well, I've still been lurking since then, and I finally got some pictures!
So keep in mind that I'm more into functionality than asthetics so I have alot of equipment showing, and the tank is new so it's pretty bare. Also, I took all the pictures on a digital camera that has no manual focus on it, so alot of the pictures are kinda blurry..

Brian - what about chromis? Attractive, inexpensive, hardy.. You could go with the typical blue or check out the orange honey chromis.. there are a few different types out there, majority are supposed to be reef safe.

I would agree with putting the Royal Gramma last if you can. I put mine in second; it has been a pain to all the other fish that I have added since... never seems to be a bother to my clownfish (that I added first). After a few weeks, she leaves the newcomers alone and I haven't had too many problems; however, initially it is stressful on the new fish-- as well as my wife!

I wouldn't add a dottyback and a gramma, could be a problem-- pseudochromis are pretty agressive from what I have read.

I really like my Vanderbilt chromis.

Our royal gramma went in as our first fish also. It has never bothered anyone. The harlequin basslet went in next and the two of them got along great. Then we put the indigo hamlet in. The basslet and hamlet postured at each other and chased each other around for the first week but never bit at each other. The gramma ignored both of them.

I finally got to meet Bob. He was here this morning and got some rock for his FO tank. It probably won't be FO for long.

I have a question maybe someone can answer.

Does sand smell gross when you take it out of the tank?
We siphoned some sand when Bob was here, and let me tell you, I was gagging at the smell of the water left in the container. I'm wondering if this is the same smell people talk about with dying sponges. Is this normal or could it be the sand was not as live as should have been or what.
The smell lingered for almost an hour, until we got rid of the bucket of water it was siphoned into.
I hope the guy who was taking the other rock didn't think it was the rock smelling.
I was going to rinse out the brute can after he left, but it had no odor in it at all...just that bucket of sand water, and he took that bucket.

the smell you are smelling is the bacteria and waste buildup. you definatly dont want to put that sand or water into any tank.

thats why Dr Shimek reccomends only moving the upper most layers of sand when moving tanks. the water/sand from the bottom of a tank is prolly toxic enough to crash any tank, IMO.

Yup. Salt is mixed in, pump is running - just add TBS! Sounds like they're about 3 weeks behind right now due to the weather. GAAA!! :eek1: Will I make it? You guys are killing me with these great pics of your tanks!

The rock didn't smell Bob, the sand water did evidently. Unless someone released some gas when they were here.....and if so, it wasn't me. I just know it turned my stomach.

Well, the last guy came and took most corals and a little more rock. He just didn't want the leather. We couldn't find the gramma. We figured it was hiding in some rock. We saw it when he was taking rock from the tank, but by the time he was going to get the fish, it disappeared.
Of course he couldn't have been more than 5 minutes away and I turn around and see it swimming all around.
I caught it and put it into QT. It will be easier to catch then.
I wish I could keep it, it's such a beautiful fish, but we already have one in the other tank.
I have about 40lbs of rock left. We'll probably keep maybe 5lbs. and the rest I'll try to sell again.

Hmmm - i think comparing your remarks with ratherbediving - one needs to convey the fact that your tank is 3 times the size of his...even the most territorial fish can relax a bit more when the tank is big.


Prometheus - be patient. You should read the posts when we all started with TBS about 12 months ago or so (when Pat created a thread called name that thing on my tbs rock). We all had various issues / items to deal with. Not discouraging you -just want to help manage your expectations. This isn't "sea monkeys", maintaining the tank will take some time and patience. Good luck!

Very true!! Tiki (the gramma) has staked out a spot behind a large rock at the right side of the tank as her own territory. The harlequinn and hanlet go in and out of that area, but that's the main place the gramma hangs out. We have a ton of hidden areas behind the rocks with plenty of room for each to declare their own special area.

I feel your pain Prometheus. I waited 117 days for my TBS rock :lol: It was worth the wait, but man it felt LONG when I was waiting.

Thanks for the link! I appreciate it.

Here are some pictures I just took. I saw that worm again. It's living underneath the TBS holey rock. The bottom part of the acrylic right where it is has a milky film that needs to get cleaned....so I can't get a good picture of it.

And of course our whelk friend.

Now there's also another weird thing going on in the tank. (the TBS tank because that's all we have now. The other one is empty)
Something was spewing out of the rock. It's a piece of rock from the tank we just tore down. It was coming out of a hole in it like a sand storm. We saw the blenny on the other side of the tank, so we knew it wasn't him....but it just kept coming and coming out in a stream. Not like the puffs we always used to ask about when we first got our TBS. This just kept going for a good minute. All it did was make silt flow around in the tank, but I still wonder what it was.
