I don't have an anemone. My clowns do seem to be hosting in the mushrooms....silly clownfish!

Lunner: yep, faces the TV and the fish don't seem to notice that you're sitting in the chair so even the shy yellow tang will swim about 6 inches from your face
Phil: thanks! Yep, the Easter Island head was me. It's currently in my empty QT, which I'm planning to fill up at some point....I'd like to get my last fish, a flame angel, pretty soon.

Great pictures, how does that pink urchin with the shells attached do in your tank? Does it eat algae only, or coralline too? I was really hoping to get one of those but didn't.

The pink urchin has done really well. I actually got two with my package, they were initially about the size of a nickel. I'm not entirely sure what it eats...probably both green algae and coralline, but it doesn't seem to be depleting the entire tank of coralline.
I got rid of a ton of the black and one of the pink urchins about 4 months ago. I meant to keep one pink and one black, BUT one black evaded me so I now have two black and the pink. They're pretty interesting so I don't mind sacrificing a bit of coralline and they're more than welcome to the rest of the algae

Maybe later this year we can share war stories...I'll be likely joining the science teacher ranks this fall, but at HS level. :eek1:

I suggest having one of your students undertake a study of the effects of cirolanid isopods on marine fish (i'm sure there are tons of studies already) but at least you have personal experience. Plus it'll be nice for them to work on something for the Intel Westinghouse Science Project (or whatever it's called these days).
Has it been 8 months already? wow time flies.
dw - unfortunately I don't think 6th graders qualify for the westinghouse science project.
Oh and on one of your prior statements about aquascaping - I will disagree. Try having a 55 gallon with an internal overflow and scape that. My scaping is hardly post-worthy compared to what I see here. I can only sit around and dream/plot about procuring a larger tank. A 90 would be nice. I doubt I could handle what lossman has in their home!!

You know, I thought about keeping some of the buggers alive, but I just couldn't handle seeing them any more. It would have been an easy to reproduce bug for the classroom. But I just KNOW some little kid would get attacked by one and freak out and then some really upset parent would be headed my way.
Nah...I hope to never see another c-pod in my tanks again
