Hi Pat,

NP about the gramma--I think I've got enough fish in my tank now. The rock filled in the gaps nicely and there are now plenty of ledges for corals and hidely places for beasties. As for the sun coral, it did open up nicely yesterday after the lights went out. And the RBTA appears to like the halides--it's wide open and about four inches across now. The clowns still don't look like they've settled down yet though, guess I'll give them a few more days and see what happens. What were you feeding them, btw? Right now, my tank gets Formula Two Flakes, Frozen Mysis and Brine, Cyclopeze, and New Life Spectrum pellets. I also ordered some Reef chili, should be here in a few days. And Tuesday I'll pick up some Krill and Silversides.

Hey, that thing digging in your rock, did you figure out what it is? Sounds like either a crab or mantis to me.

Anyway, good luck with your rearranged tank,

jan

Thanks Dennis! :)
I haven't been able to post all morning. Something strange going on with RC.

Here are a few pictures of Bob's BTA & baby.

Sally, what did you ever do about the 2 fish you got??

Someone came yesterday and picked up the tunze & seio I was selling. He sent me a pm and said they were fantastic. He has a BB tank, and said they're keeping all the junk off the bottom and is doing exactly what he was hoping for, so he's very happy.
I also got an email from the NJ guy who picked up the rock and tangs:
Hi Pat,
We made out just fine, no water in the truck and everything made it into the tank OK. The fish are still a little shy but look fine, what did you feed them? As soon as I set it up as I want it, I will send you a picture, the rock is truly beautiful and looks great in the 180g tank.
thanks for all the help,
Mike

I guess we never discussed what the fish ate.

Jan, they ate everything you have, plus formula 1 flakes, HBH veggie flakes, prime reef flakes, kelp flakes, and various sea veggies. They eat anything and everything. Of course they don't eat all that stuff at once, but they eat anything I put in the tank for that feeding.
You'll be very happy with the reef chili. I've recommended it to a few people who post here, and they all seem to be very pleased with it.

I haven't seen anything spewing from the rock since that one time. It probably was a crab. We don't have any mantis in the tank.

The orange pistol has been re-arranging it's home since the change over. There are new piles of sand under all the rocks now...throughout the entire tank....so it sure gets around!

Still can't see the zoa frag I lost.:(

Pat, we have both fish in the qt tank. They are doing great, eating well and swimming about. We will only put one of them in the tank and will probably trade the other to our lfs for something. I'm really pleased with the fish. The one we plan to keep looks exactly like the picture of the neon wrasse on the Marine Depot website. :) He should be gorgeous when he grows up. We have yet to pick out a name for it.

found a new hitchhicker, seams like i get the strange ones. a gloss black crab with some small white spots on the top and the legs are black and white stripes. maybe from the keys.? i'll get some pictures tonight

Who else here has keys rock? It most probably is something from your keys. I don't recall seeing anything like that with any gulf rock pictures.
So far (and that's a leery so far).....it seems like most of the gorillas went to Bob and/or the NJ guy. I got that one out yesterday that I showed the picture of. I'm not sure if it was the same one I saw the other day or not, but for now I don't see them all the time like I did before split the tanks up.
Wouldn't that be nice...no more gorillas here and no more c-pods for Brian?

I sure hope so! Up to 24 days with none spotted/trapped :D

I got a couple of new additions to the tank in exchange for my fire coral colony:

don't think it's a gorrilla, no hair. smooth, shiny shell, altho the claw tips are blacker than the rest
Looks just like them. I will have to look to see how much hair they have on them. I have a big one in there right now.

It really doesn't matter to me gorilla or not because if I get the change it will be fish food. :D

I had the clown in Bob's tank attempt to get the brain to host it, and killed the brain. The clowns Jan just took never went near the RBTA.
Maybe if it was out in the open more, they would have attempted it, but I never got to see it. That would have been nice to see them do that.

Looks great Pat. I really like the cave on the right side of the picture. Glad you and your husband were able to agree on the aquascaping so you're both happy! Sorry to hear about your zoa though......I suppose it COULD be a reason to order some new stuff :D

There are some things that never change...

Good luck with your hunt Pat.

Quick question for those using a Phosban reactor.......what are you using for a feed pump?

I guess I'm the rebel - I use a Mini-Jet N404. Same company, same output - just different design.

Tunze stream ????

Tunze stream ????

Pat,

Did you feel that the Tunze was a considerable improvement over the SEIO? Was the one enough for the tank with SEIO on the other end to help cause turbulance?

Sorry for the questions but I'm looking to upgrade pumps :D

B....I had the Tunze first. Saw some brown building up on the sand and realized it just wasn't getting enough flow. I didn't want to spend a few hundred more for another Tunze setup, so went with the Seio.
The two of them in the tank was plenty.
I think I needed more than 1 ph because the tank was 24" wide instead of the 18" like the other tank.
I do think the Tunze are better than the Seio for sure. But for a cheaper alternative, the Seio worked well.

Bob I have never found a black crab hitchhiker on my Keys rock. I have had the brown and a white gorilla crab. Also have a dark solid red crab. The pinchers look just like an emerald crab with the small cups. So far he doesn't seem to bother any corals.

I'd imagine if you had the controller for the tunze and bought the "beefier" version of the SEIO - they might be similar. Otherwise my tunze beats the seio easily. I think the tunze is great but barely usable in my 55 - the tank is just too small. Economics has a little to do with it but mainly my wife fears I'll never spend any time with the family if the tank were bigger

I really need to read pat's posts more closely. She pretty much answered everything already.
