Out of Africa (picture intensive)

Ok im almost convinced now the species i have is Elysia Obtusa and it does seem to eat bryopsis as one of its diets at least

The pictures are very similar and the differences in colouration between the one i removed to photograph and the ones in my aquarium appear to be from them changing colour just after they have eaten

Of course im quite happy with this, i hope they will live along time in my aquarium but time will tell i estimate i have maybe a few hundred at present but that is rough estimation

that's great news! I should be so lucky!! :D

Just read through all 9 pages and I love your tank.
Makes my 300 penisula look small.
One of my favorite fish is your COW Fish. Are they reef safe? I had one and it started to nip at my corals. Took it back to LFS. Very sad day. She had a great personality. Everytime I was close to the tank she would be in my face. If I put my hand in the tank she would swim to it and sit in my cupped hand.
I sure miss her. If there is a way to keep her and corals both I would lime to here it
mark

Yes Elliot, im pretty happy with this little hitchhiker for once a useful one!

Calif-Reef, the Cow fish has loads of personality but sadly they are not reefsafe and would damage alot of corals especially as they get older, there are certain types of corals it wont bite alot like heliopora(the blue coral) and fire corals and also large anemones but it often spends its time sampling bites of any coral which looks appetizing to it. It truely is a fish that becomes a pet though and well worth keeping imo even over corals ;)

Been awhile since I updated , the xenia in my right compartment grew like a weed, so I decided to transplant it to my fish section, the first rock I put in didn't last long before it was completely devoured.
I decided to add more and it seems with the quantity now in there , there is so little predation over the last few months that it is actually growing in that section. The side compartments have therefore allowed me to grow sufficient quantities , so that it is now possible to keep soft corals in the main fish section without them being decimated by the Large Angels and Boxfish. Quite incredible when one thinks I started with one small frag of the xenia.
I am in the process of removing the majority of it from the right coral section and replacing the Rock with Fiji branch rock in there.
The fish certainly seem happier with that extra life in their main section, excuse the iphone video not the best quality but it gives you an idea, I plan on doing a better quality vid soon.
The elysia obtusa are growing in number as well and have eaten most of the bryopsis in the Aquarium , none of the fish seem to eat them and if they try they spit them straight out, there are thousands of them now.
Still trying to get hold of photosynthetic gorgonians and fire coral but none of the Lfs here bring them in.

Hi Oliverbrisbo

The French angel has grown from the smallest fish in the Aquarium at 4 cm in size to about 35cm over the years

Hi there..Did you post how thick your concrete walls were and i just missed it? I am doing a similar build and my developer told me yesterday that he thinks I should go with 8" thick walls on a 8W x 12L x 6 tall tank...

That vid is really amazing! It shows the diversity you are keeping in the three compartment set up. The fish section is very nice!

Such a great tank! I really like the small compartment set up and how it creates overhangs in the main tank. Your fish are awesome too, and I like the descriptions you give of them. You should try and pair some of those angels!

Amazing tank! Love the stock list! I have a 6-7" changing french angel that is with corals as well. Favorite fish! I am amazed you that you have that many corals though.

Thank you Bax!
Yes that was my intention and it is evolving nicely , more than i expected even as they side coral compartments are nurseries for Corals to be transplanted, fish can be isolated there , and they are refugia to stop predation

Love it! Feeding the angels with corals....how natural!

Thank you Prop-frags

Yes with this type of design , it enables me to propagate fast growing corals like xenia and i am hoping some other species that likewise grow at a rapid rate, and instead of the usual fragging and thinning out i can transplant it to the fish section creating a more natural reef and let nature do what comes natural!

Thank you Tcmfish, for the great compliment!

The overhangs have really been good for the fish too some fish nap in the shadows just like they would on a normal reef and it does have dual purposes.
Pairing the angels sounds amazing , the regal angel is perhaps my best bet though to do that with, or maybe some of the dwarfs

Thank you AngelsAnonymous. Yes i really have tried to get fish that excite me and there are so many i wish i could keep them all but for that id need a much larger aquarium!:inlove:

The only reason i can keep the corals is due to the design , some of those fish are definitely not compatible with corals especially in a smaller aquarium

If I were you I would try to pair all of your small angels, flame, potters, venustus, regal, and majestic. I would add smaller ones because the ones you have are probably male or changing. There will probably be some aggression initially but they should work it out.
