Salt water Fish tank reef tank setup for sale, along with rock, sand, fish, corals, inverts, etc.
My wife and I recently had our first child (after 5 years of trying!). Unfortunately, in addition to the standard sleepless nights of having a newborn, my wife has come down with very severe anti-partum depression, requiring a great deal of care. Between caring for my wife, my baby, working, and all of the other stuff that life requires, I have zero time (or finances) left over to maintain a fish tank.
I'm hoping to do a very thorough inventory of what is for sale, and sell everything (as a complete package) at a firm price that I think will sell quickly. I don't have time to babysit this sale.
Check it out, someone pick this up quick (I hope).
Thanks, and Merry Christmas.
Tom
Fish tank: Oceanic 55g. Beautiful 18" front to back (plenty of room for aquascape), 20.5" tall, and 36" wide.
Stand: Customized cabinet with drawers for electrical (elevated and dry) and cabinet for storage. Stand has some molding around the edges, a customized top, and a removable side panel if you want the large sump to fit inside. Stand measures approximately 19" x 37" x 33" tall.
Sump: Includes a sump that I believe is a 29g tall. Includes plumbing, a grow light for chaeto, a cooling fan, an auto-top off (ATO) system, etc.
Lights: Relatively brand new 36" light with a 250w metal halide, 4x t-5 (39w each), and moon lights. This has been used only a couple months. (See the blog below for details)
Also, I have the canopy that came with the tank with retrofitted 4x t5 lights (39w each) with a 660 ballast, if you prefer that look instead.
Overflow: Continuous Siphon Overflow that is rated for 1200g/h, along with an Aqua Lifter so you never have to worry about losing suction. I have this setup as a "œHerbie Style" overflow making it silent and (relatively) safe.
Skimmer: Bubble Magus NAC6 protein skimmer. Easily the best skimmer I've ever had. Easily adjusted, pulls out nasty gunk. Retails for $230.
American DJ electrical panel to easily control various pumps, lights, etc. There is another surge protector or two I can let you take.
Auto Top Off: System with backup shut-off (in case of snail intervention). Includes a fancy basket to hold a canister of clean water, so the wife will approve of having this in your home.
Chiller: There is a fan that attaches to the sump that blows air over the water when the metal halide is on.
Temperature probe: 2x temperature probes for checking the temp of the water.
Return pump: RIO ___ return pump. More than enough power to keep your water turning over.
Livestock:
~50# Live rock. ~50# Live Sand.
Several different kinds of corals. (I've neglected the tank; I couldn't even say what is in there right now).
Peppermint shrimp.
Snails & hermit crabs.
Potter's Angel (freaking beautiful!)
Yellow Coris wrasse
Blue/green Chromi
Lastly, you can see the very early stages of this tank here:
http://www.norcalreefclub.com/index...5g-tank-journal/page__gopid__62092#entry62092
So while that is most of what comes with the free-standing tank setup (ready to run!!), here is what else is being thrown in"¦
Complete Quarantine system: additional 29g tall tank, HOB filter with biomaterial for bacteria to grow (just seed with some live rock for an instantly cycled tank), PVC fittings for fish to hide in, pumps, heaters, air stones and pumps, the works.
Bulk Reef Supply (BRS) 5 Stage PLUS Reverse Osmosis (RO) & Deionization System, rated at 75gpd. It has not been used very much, and is still easily putting out water with zero TDS.
Water change system. 55gallon brute trash can with wheels, pump for mixing, and hose with fitting that then allows that pump to send the mixed saltwater to your tank. Has a ball valve at the end for easy management and no floods! You can even use that same hose to drain the tank first for water changes!
About 100# of dry rock! Looks really great!
Light: 4' Light system with 2x 250w Metal Halide lights, CF actinic supplements, and moonlights.
Also, another 3 or 4 foot light that would be great for over a frag tank.
BRS Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) and Activated Lignite Carbon (small); 1 gallon of each; with a very small amount used.
GLO T5 HO light system.
Calcium Reactor. Looks DIY (not by me)
Kalk Reactor. Looks DIY (also not by me)
Surge addition for a tank. Simulates reef crest waves that surge over a reef bringing oxygen and nutrients. Needs to be installed above a tank.
Lots of extra PVC plumbing and fittings.
Various chemicals and testers.
Refractometer.
Timers, Buckets, Trash Cans, Pumps, Overflows, hoses. All sorts of assorted goodies.
Oh yeah, I also found some storage tubs with even more pumps, protein skimmers, etc. in it. You can have the two tubs as well as their contents.
"¦and during the sale, anything else you find that is fish related, you are welcome to. Just about. Although I can't think of what I wouldn't give away.
Okay, money time. What price tag to put on this that is a little bit fair to me, gets me some cash to help cover expenses while the wife is off of work, but still moves this QUICKLY?
Here's what some of this would cost to acquire, new or on craigslist/ReefCentral:
Fish tank: $100
Stand:$50
Sump: $30
Lights: $200
Overflow:$55
Skimmer: $230
American DJ electrical panel $20
Auto Top Off: $40
Chiller: $15
Temperature probes: $15
Return pump: $60
Livestock:
~50# Live rock. $100
~50# Live Sand. $50
Several different kinds of corals. Free
Peppermint shrimp. $15
Snails & hermit crabs. $30
Potter's Angel (freaking beautiful!) $30
Yellow Coris wrasse $30
Blue/green Chromi $3
Complete Quarantine system: $120
Bulk Reef Supply RO/DI: $170
Water change system. $100
100# dry rock $100
Lights: $60
BRS Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) and Activated Lignite Carbon (small); 1 gallon of each $62; $20
GLO T5 HO light system. $30
Calcium Reactor $50
Kalk Reactor $50
= An accurate value (based on the used condition of the items listed above) of approximately $1900.
To restate that, I think if you took the time and carefully parted out everything, you could resell everything on CL or RC for about $1900. And this does not include many of the protein skimmers, pumps, filters, overflows, etc. This is a treasure trove!
As I previously stated, I have no time anymore for dickering over prices. I think a realistic quick-sale is a value of 40% of it's new price. Here I have estimated it's fair used price, and then am asking only half of that! SO, I'm asking about $900 for all of these items. Or best offer.
I'm reasonable. If you think my prices are way off, let me know and we can come to an agreement.
I'd love to have this gone by this weekend. Come get it.
Thanks,
Tom
